As I am sure all of you know, UNC was flagrantly violating NCAA rules on a systemic basis:

If this is not a situation worthy of the death penalty I have no idea what would be. Naturally, people are wondering whether this might cause trouble for Roy Williams:

Obviously, nobody is wondering whether this will hurt the football coach because the current football coach was not around during the period of the fraud. However, we are also getting reports about Mack Brown getting an offer to coach at SMU:

Which brings me to my question: Doesn't this fraud taint Mack Brown? He was the head football coach for a long time during this period of fraud, and apparently everybody knew about it. If the NCAA eventually gets around to levying penalties, wouldn't he be sanctioned as well? Of all places, you would think SMU would be sensitive to NCAA enforcement. Or maybe part of their decision to revitalize the football program is an implicit re-commitment to flouting the NCAA rules.
It is also interesting to me that Mack was around this kind of fraud. His reputation has always been pristine when it comes to NCAA rules, but maybe that reputation is not deserved. Or perhaps, his ethics are simply fluid and he takes on the ethics of his employer.
