I was at a total loss of words after last nights game. Going into it i was convinced that Texas would get its revenge in a hard fought, but low scoring game. And going into the half, despite the early 6-0 deficit, after seeing how accurate Swoopes surprisingly was, and how stout the defense was in the redzone, i figured they would eventually punch it in a few times and pull off the victory. But as everyone reading this knows, that did not happen.
Shawn Watson's total lack of playcalling ultimately lead to the offense completely shutting down in the 2nd half. Is it really that tough to throw the ball more then 20 yards? Swoopes has thrown a long ball like that (though not consistently) before and yet they didnt even take a shot. Shawn Watson is not an offensive cooridinator, hes a qbs coach and thats it. He could barely put points on the board at Louisville against group of 5 schools, what makes Strong think he could against better competition? Lets not put all the blame on the offense though, how about the defense looking like one of the best in the big 12 in the first half, and then the complete lack of effort in the 2nd half. You take away the 3rd quarter and you have a 13-7 ballgame. Not to mention the special teams was completely out of it the entire game.
Im not trying to blame the coaching staff or the players, but this cant continue if Charlie Strong wants to rebuild this program. This game surely didnt help in recruiting either. Whether this was just growing pains, a lack of effort or whatever it was, Strong needs to fix it and fix it soon
