AT&T; U-Verse won't carry LHN anytime soon...per Big Cigar

From the guys over at Inside Texas, it was pointed out in the latest edition of Mondays in the Humidor that the Big Cigar recently had a conversation with an AT&T U-Verse executive. Unfortunately for Longhorn fans, the conversation didn't go as well as we would all hope. It was made pretty clear that AT&T has absolutely no plans to carry the Longhorn Network now or at anytime in the future without serious changes in the enormous price tag that ESPN has saddled around its fledgling neck.

Take it for what it's worth. Just passing along this tidbit of disappointing information. I'd suggest anyone with AT&T U-Verse jump from this sinking ship and head for the white sandy beaches of another service provider. Calling and sending in service requests will do nothing at this point. I've already started the process of switching to Comcast. Hooray for west coast football!!! F&@# AT&T.

Wake Up The Echoes

Lots of people hate Notre Dame. I know that. But lots of people absolutely love Notre Dame. So many, in fact, that odds are you know one or two of them.

If that is the case, will you do me a huge favor and send them this link: Notre Dame 2012 Season Preview

The guys at One Foot Down have put together a really great product and it costs less than a buck.

Some Early NFL Wagering Thoughts

The heartening level of degeneracy displayed in the comments 'neath Scip's CFB Season Wins article made me think there might be an appetite for some NFL wagering talk as well. I pretty much tail people I trust for any college betting, but I spend a decent amount of time analyzing the NFL so I'd love thoughts on some of the pre-season's more intriguing lines.

Mixed Emotions and Marquise Goodwin

I wouldn’t presume to tell another man how to feel. I will say that I hope we ate enough queso to get Marquise Goodwin’s Momma to London. She would tell him to be proud. He seems like a good kid, and good kids always listen to their Momma.

There was a time when the world was your neighborhood, and all the people in your life pretty much went to school with you. The measure by which you evaluated intelligence was the girl with the glasses in the third row – if you got the same number right on the math test as her, you were in good shape. The president was concerned enough about our physical fitness that he had someone count our sit-ups, but we all knew who the track star was. The best athlete in the world was the fastest kid in your class.

One of the consequences of growing up, and the world getting smaller, is that the local kid starts getting compared to the standards of continents and history. Sure, you’re pretty good, but you can’t run 100 meters in less than ten seconds. Yeah, you scored a basket, but Wilt Chamberlain once scored a hundred points in a game.

First 2014 commitment? WR Lorenzo Joe per 247

Per 247's Blake Munroe, Abilene Cooper WR Lorenzo Joe has committed to UT.... for the 2014 class. In what seems to be a massive change of recruiting tactics, it would appear that the staff has sent out committable offers to a number of 2014 recruits including 5 defensive backs, RB Donald Catalon and others according to Gerry Hamilton. No more waiting until Junior Day for your offer. We are up and running on 2014 before the books are closed on 2013. It sounds as if a second commitment could be done by the close of business today, as Munroe is also reporting that Eisenhower RB Catalon has said he is considering calling the staff this afternoon and officially committing to UT.

I am guessing the increased presence of certain schools from the southeastern portion of the contiguous United States may have led Mack and the staff to decide that the old ways were no longer going to work with Nick Saban personally offering a number of the top recruits in the State.

Thoughts?
