I was devastated to discover Samantha Steele will no longer be with LHN.

Can't blame her.
She needs to be someplace where she can be seen.

Don't make him head coach in-waiting...but PAY THE MAN TO STAY!!!

Double Secret HCIW?
But what about Harsin? And tehmajor?

Manny and Major probably have to leave
To have a shot at the HC job in the future. Just the way I see. I can see a scenario where Major moves into the OC job for the next HC and then sometime afterwards the HC job but I think that’s unlikely.
I think Manny or Major would ultimately be home runs at Texas. Harsin I don’t see ever being the HC here.

Dynasty
I have a sneaking suspicion that Major is being groomed to be the next head coach at Texas. Mack, having realized the error in promoting Sims over Major, and feeling guilty for doing so, gives Major the title of "co-offensive coordinator" for his resume (throwing him a bone in the event that he pursues employment else ware), all the while allowing him learn from Harsin. This is a particularly beneficial solution to Harsin’s inevitable exit in a few years, and solves the problem of having to implement a new offense and lose a couple years due to growing pains, as Major will be able to continue with business as usual. By then, Manny is gone and some other SEC coordinator is running the defense, Mack wins another NC, walks away, and Major ascends to his rightful position on the throne only to reign over the most successful head coaching dynasty at Texas.
And then they make a movie about it. Hook ‘em!

Other than this idiocy
Mack, having realized the error in promoting Sims over MajorI could live with the rest of the post

??
How is that idiocy, Major was clearly a more clutch QB than Simms. Maybe not the pro prospect Simms was but a hell of alot better overall QB when it came time for big game decisions.

Gotta have "it"
Mack probably made the decision to go with the guy who had the bigger upside, but to your point that doesn’t always pan out. There’s something kinda cool about being a gritty, college football legend who doesn’t play in the NFL but will still go down in infamy for the magic that they created for a couple years as young adults. That may be Colt and Vince’s destiny too.
I like to pretend that upon hiring him, Mack pulled Major aside and said, “Hey, champ, look, sorry about the whole Chris Simms thing. Tell you what, stick with me for the next couple of years and I’ll make it up to you.”

HC: Manny > Major
Manny is more polished. Major hasn’t even been an OC in his own right yet.
I think (read: pray) the boosters pay Diaz big money long enough to make him our next HC. They love his politician-nature; he’s an active recruiter; he puts a young, hungry, emotive face on the program.
Meanwhile, Harsin accepts an HC position elsewhere (hopefully outside of the Big 12). Major ascends to standalone OC and can run Harsin’s offense without him. Manny nabs another SEC DC, and we’re set for long-term success.
One big necessity in this plan: Mack’s not leaving without another NC. So we gotta hope that happens sooner than later (as if you weren’t already).

Peterson from Boise State...
would be the first in line for our HC position once Mack vacates it.
Harsin probably goes back to Boise State to be HC. Diaz will be coaching Tennessee by then.
Major (who has, in fact, been an OC in his own right) will either go with Diaz or Harsin if he doesn’t stay and be the Texas OC during the next Coaching overhaul. Call it a coin flips chance that he either goes or stays.
I think all this goes down within the next 2-3 years, with or without a National Championship. Especially now that Mack is playing the SEC recruiting game and offering Sophomores in HS.

I don't really like this wording
now that Mack is playing the SEC recruiting game
We sat down on the edge and dipped our feet into the shallow end of the lap pool to get off of the hot cement. Meanwhile Alabama and Auburn are diving off the 10m platform, and most of the rest of the SEC is at least going off of the 3m high dive into the muck. Florida might just be going off the 1m diving board. And Vandy is just over doing water aerobics in our end of the pool.

You're right about Major OC
Whoops, should’ve said “Major hasn’t even been our** OC in his own right.” What I meant by that was, we haven’t even given Major the reins to our offense yet, so I doubt he’d jump straight to head coach. He may be being groomed for that position some day, but I doubt he’ll be next in line.
I’d believe we’d take Boise’s Petersen. But I think I’d prefer Manny over him.

Wasn't Major OC at Alabama under Saban for a year? Also at Rice?
I think he’s been an OC for a while…
