I recently bought Risk for my son, and the game pieces (hundreds and hundreds) now have to be punched out of the plastic molds by hand. After 20 minutes of frustration and pain I decided to teach him Stratego. More simplistic than Risk, but great for teaching strategy and thinking ahead.

Both Ohio State and USC are better than Va Tech and Miami. TCU and Okie State are too high. There is no way that UofH should be in the top 25 after losing to lowly UTEP especially since GaTech, South Florida, and Georgia are left out. I’m questioning whether BYU deserves to be in the top 25 after their loss to FSU. FSU is really bad. Also, some mention should be given to undefeated Wisconsin. I’m really tired of Boise.

I can’t totally disagree because Okie State has struggled in every game except for the Georgia game. You could drop BYU, UH, Okie State, and possibly OU. and include S Florida, Gtech, and Wisky.

I don’t think there are 25 teams that deserve to be “ranked.”
That said, the NCAA basketball committee question always should be a consideration: “Which team (of a given group) would you not want to play?” LSU, USC, don’t want to see. VT, UC, TCU, Iowa, Boise, less of a problem.
Boise is living off of beating OU three years ago, because of the thought that they would do it again… that, and now Oregon finding itself after clearly not being ready to play the first week. Can’t imagine Texas, playing at home, struggling in the third quarter with UC Davis.

OU losing and A&M getting pounded pretty much mean, IMO, that Texas will have to win out. One-loss Texas, depending on the loss, might hang in the human polls but will get torpedoed by the computers.

I agree with you completely. I would not want to play USC or Ohio State, but rather a TCU or Boise. The real wild card is cincy, but there are some big east teams that could beat them. Namely, Pitt, WVA, or S Florida. All those teams have some athletes.
Oregon will get exposed perhaps this weekend.

I have no problem with UT running the table and getting a shot at FLA / Bama and I also, depending on context, have no problem dropping one and not getting a shot at FLA / Bama. That seems fair.
I am thinking of that long run by Florida State when the ACC was smaller and much weaker. They played salty OOC games but beat the hell out of everybody intra-conference (Mack and Greg receiving a lot of these).
A lot of the complaining has to do with poll vs. power poll mechanics.

Exactly. Playing the ___ beat ____ game gets silly fairly quickly once you’re a few weeks into the season. As does a musing that “Ohio St is better than Miami” when there’s absolutely no indication that Ohio State would ever play to win in a game that matters.
The debate centers around resume ranking (which had multiple pollsters with U of H in their TOP FIVE last week) vs. reputational polling (of which Florida and Texas are currently beneficiaries).
Most people come down in one camp or the other.
The notion that you can find some internal logical consistency in polls actually tends to lead to the Boise St’s being ranked in the top five.
At the end of the day, it’s a qualitative assessment.

There was a lot of pre-game squawk about Oregon being Boise’s only quality opponent, and Boise played that game like they knew it as well. Meanwhile, Oregon looked like a BCS team that was treating it like its first game. Even so, Boise didn’t come away with the kind of scoreboard edge you would expect given Oregon’s horrible offensive effort.
I’m not saying Boise’s terrible, but the people who have ranked them that highly based on the fact they haven’t lost are, IMO, making a mistake.
I wouldn’t have a problem with making room for Boise in a playoff scenario of decent depth (at least eight teams) but not being slingshot into the BCSCG because every team in the SEC or B12 ended up taking a loss.

Cincy & Miami should be ahead of USC in my humble opinion. Cincy is beating everyone they play like a drum and Miami’s loss is much more understandable and justifiable than is USC’s. UW did not win one single game last year. That kind of loss is inexcusable and should have the other 1 loss teams ahead of them.

Obviously, it’s an academic exercise since Florida and Alabama play an elimination game at season’s end, but I’m rewarding Alabama for their play on the field against some decent to good teams (Arkansas, Va Tech, Kentucky). Alabama is the best blend of resume good and qualitative good. That doesn’t mean Texas and Florida aren’t better - in fact I think they may be - but they’re unproven relative to the Tide.
The month of October will tell us all we need to know about Texas.

Not sure about Miami being “much” more understanding than SC. Miami was playing its starting QB, SC wasn’t. And while Miami lost to a team that’s materially better than Washington, the Huskies nevertheless are playing a considerably better brand of football this year (so far, anyway).

I thought Florida’s victory at Kentucky was much more impressive than Bama’s. Had Tebow not gone down they could have easily put up 60. They gave up less than 200 yards to Kentucky, who managed to put up 300 on Bama. I guess this is a bit of a nit pick using stats, but Florida really softened Kentucky up for Bama, but Bama didn’t seem to have the ability to dominate a team that should have been ripe for the picking. Ok, the VT victory looks impressive, but that was way back in September. I think Bama drops one if they get caught sleeping early like they did against Kentucky.
