Why dont you rank them according to how good they are.

  3. I really only care about the top 3, but, BUT, USC is not #4. I’m not sure who is, but losing to UW (even if they started a backup, probably 5* recruit no less) is no reason for losing to UW.

As far as the top 3, it’s a mess. Texas is showing a lot of defense, but no one believes in the Big XII offenses this season (for good reason). Against OSU will show us something.

UF and ‘Bama are not as good as advertised. Kind of like finally getting to fuck your girlfriend on prom night only to find out she was reemed by the backup center on the football team…it’s still good, but not quite as great as you were thinking it would be.

I’m not usually one to engage in transitive property-based debates, but it’s amazing to me how much fallout USC is allowed to dodge each and every year.

I mean, Oregon loses to a team that’s widely voted in the top 10, sometimes even in the top 5, and they’re behind USC, which loses to a team that might go 6-5 on the year.

Obviously, next week will tell the tale … unless UO does something Pac-Tennish like beat USC and then lose to Oregon State, thus ceding the title and Rose Bowl AGAIN to the Trojans.

Tangential thought: The ACC is the most entertaining league in the country this year. Hell of a lot more interesting than the SEC, Big 12 and Big 10, at any rate.

The Calvinist in me suspects we’ll somehow end up with an Iowa/Florida MNC game.

  5. I like USC at 4, just to see the anger it provokes from the rabble.

  6. Decent excuse for SC’s loss, given their injured QB. Not sure the same thing happens with Matt “Just Drive the Bus, Don’t Crash It” Barkley at the wheel.

  7. UH-31 Mississippi State-24 in StarkVegas

Yeah, I guess. But then again, one of the reasons that USC gets so much run every year is due to their highly publicized recruiting machine. And yet even with SoCal QB pipelines and allegedly top-notch transfers, they can’t overcome an injury to a true frosh whose best quality thus far is that he doesn’t screw up?

  9. I don’t much agree with big pieces of this poll. I still may not fully understand the blogpoll process though. Is it designed to reflect an author from the site’s personal feel for who’s what? Or is it supposed to be a reflection of how the site thinks all of the blogs view the CFB world?

USC isn’t #4. It is placating to the norm. The backup QB excuse is also weak when people throw it out there. It would have been Barkley’s 3rd game. Contrary to what idiots like to say or type, he didn’t win the Ohio State game on that big drive. McKnight owned that drive and gets an amazingly small amount of credit for it. USC was not prepared to play Washington that day.

Alabama goes to 1 with wins like the one Texas had over Missouri. Texas goes to 3 with wins like Bama had over Tennessee. Florida has done nothing in any given week to merit #1 over either of the other 2 teams.

I don’t need you to explain Cincinnati to me.

Georgia Tech is a borderline top 15 team. Probably more like top 20. The ACC remains a high average, zero anomaly conference. They just are right now. I don’t know what the stats say about them, as I haven’t looked, but from watching them a bunch, they are a team that can be thrown on. A competent passer will make them look dumber than Jacory Harris did.

It pains me to type it, but I think Pittsburgh and UH are both top 15 teams capable of being in the top 10. I have bet against Pitt several times lately, only to watch roll someone. Lewis is a terrific back. Just excellent for a Freshman. They have a very good team.

Snead is having off the field issues that are not going away. I wouldn’t count on them to get right any time soon.

I like WV enough to think that they’re a top 25 program.

CTJ, obviously you and I are of similar minds on USC. Of course, usually when I’m really starting to boil about how much they get away with is about the same time they start wrecking shit again in the Pac-10. If form holds, they’ll beat UO by three touchdowns.

I’m not sure what if anything’s to be done about the widely disparate interpretations of SEC vs. Big 12 performances. I guess that’s what goes with the territory when you have two major media entities as significant shareholders in your operations. Understanding it doesn’t make it any less infuriating.

I was at the UH/SMU game Saturday. The game was actually a lot closer than the score would indicate. UH’s defense is truly awful - the Ponies could have hung a lot closer if they hadn’t had a couple of dropped balls early on.

Additionally, there were stretches of the game where UH’s offense didn’t do much at all. Porous O-line play, no one getting open downfield, Keenum dumping the ball off well short of the first down marker, outside runs getting strung out and stuffed. Very familiar stuff.

I think UH got bored, and I also think SMU simply didn’t have the athletes to keep up - and they pulled that OU/Tech soccer bullshit where a guy falls to the turf like he’s been shot just about the time the other team is working up a head of steam.

That’s all a long way of saying I think UH is a top-10 team in the same way that Tech was last year. Certainly capable of overwhelming their opponents, but just as likely to utterly cave on any given night.

Sumlin and Holgorsen run a totally legit offense, though. I was pretty jealous watching it in action, not only Saturday but against Tech as well.

Pitt I’d buy, simply because Wannstache usually has a good defense. The Big East round robin between them, WV and Cincy is going to be really interesting. Reminds me of a couple of years ago when you had a similar situation with WVU, Louisville and South Florida. And Rutgers as well, IIRC.

why does this score keep getting overlooked?

  12. Iowa is undefeated with home wins over Michigan and Arizona, and ROAD wins over Penn St. (only loss for a preseason Top 5 team), Wisconsin, and Michigan St. A much better resume than USC, TCU, or Cincy.

  13. If my observations of this weekly Blogpoll are correct, you rank the teams according to their year long body of work but with a very stong emphasis on how they performed in their last game. If that’s the case then Texas should be the #1 team or at tleast #1a or #1b, most likely with Florida.

I can’t get worked up in any form or fashion over where any team is ranked after the first 3.

  14. About time you saw the light regarding ‘bama. What’s this like 2 offensive TD’s in their last 3 games?

  15. Groundhogday said:

    October 26th, 2009 at 5:19 am

Good rankings. I agree with Grange. Until Iowa loses, they should be ranked at 4. Does anyone remember Ohio State and how ugly their season was when they beat the U for the NC? Not saying that Iowas is that team but they are winning and that’s all that counts. Until further notice they should be 4, USC at 5, TCU at 6….

If we lose to the #12 Gundy-aggy in the no wake zone, do we get to hang out at #4 like the LA bed shitters?

  17. Where have we come as a society when a home loss to Iowa State in a 9-7 contest means being dropped from the polls?

  18. The more I watch alabama, the more I start to come back to earth in realizing that they will not beat florida , it will be close because of their defense but there is no way that their QB can win a game like that. Florida will do exactly what tennessee did but with better results, load up against the run and make them throw.. Greg Mcelroy is to young and inexperienced to make his way through his reads, the game in his head is on super speed, I can only imagine how fast it would be going under the lights on primetime against the gators and st. tebow.

Agree completely on TCU, they are legit… I’d like to see them against alabama in the sugar bowl that would be a hell of a match up.

We might as well just make the top 12 the entire SEC because the ” team speed, and defenses in the Sec are just so much better than anything being played outside of the south, and every game is a classic” - We all know that if Texas and USC were in the SEC they might get lucky and beat vandy every couple of years but they would just be another miss st… I am so sick of hearing how great these wins are against these so so ball clubs.

Scip- after watching that game, how are you feeling about where we are? Can we feel good about where we are heading on offense, or was that just more mizzou being mizzou instead of us making progress? I don’t want to put my homer glasses on, but the more I see everyone else I feel better about our chances to get it done in pasadena.

  19. Wait, wait, wait. Do the rankings for Florida and Alabama include SEC ref.’s?

Do the computers take the SEC ref.’s/no SEC ref.’s into account, like they do for home/hostile/neutral field?

  20. Come to think of it, when the coin drops at the SEC championship game, I fully expect all the zebras’ heads to erupt like something out of Videodrome. I mean, how will they choose? The SEC demands an undefeated flagship team.

    DOES NOT COMPUTE ::: BOOM!!!

  21. Beating SoCal and Losing to OSU will leave us a full game ahead of the Trojans despite our Beaver problem.

  22. Having watched Georgia Tech 3 times this year on the East Coast, I can tell you they’d destroy Iowa outright. If we are going to ding non power conference undefeated’s (Hi! Boise St.) for their slackass breathern, why does Iowa get to get away with having a bunch of Nancy’s for opponents?

  23. ‘Snead is having off the field issues that are not going away. I wouldn’t count on them to get right any time soon.’

Can you elaborate? I hadn’t heard anything.
