Cognitive Dissonance Station
People be filling up my inbox with this stuff so I am passing it along to you, bemused Longhorn fan.
srr50 already let you know that Bill Byrne was still railing against the Longhorn Network, though it is quite certain to fail in an epic fashion.
Now we have more Aggie politico alums trying to get this game back on the calendar, as soon as 2013."My hope is that the leaders of both UT and Texas A&M can put their differences aside and make a sincere effort to add this game to the schedule in 2013 and into the future," Lyles wrote. "Folks throughout Texas have made it clear that they wish to maintain this historic Texas tradition and don't want to see this rivalry end."
Mostly Aggie folks, I suspect.
But not the same Aggies who are getting together to debate lyric adjustments to the Aggie War Hymn.
On Tuesday the Texas A&M Traditions Council met on campus to discuss with student leaders about several Aggie traditions that could warrant change as the school enters the SEC.
The biggest topic of discussion was the famed Aggie War Hymn. Since A&M opted to join the SEC and leave behind the University of Texas, students and alumni alike have suggested a change in the famous War Hymn.
The change would be to include the less famous first verse of the War Hymn to take away from reciting "Goodbye to Texas University" twice. Because the two schools will not conduct their rivalry in the near future the War Hymn became a large question for many students.
First of all the existence of an Aggie Traditions Council is awesome and something Fake Ken or Scipio will address soon, I hope. Rest assured we have activated a sleeper cell in College Station to infiltrate this shadowy organization and get some footage.
Also discussed was the Aggie Dance team joining the Texas A&M Yell Leaders on the sidelines during football games.
Nice...
Both groups unanimously voted against the Aggie Dance team performing during games.
Damn.
So we have some Aggies who really want to play us and others who want to wipe us from their traditions and move on. And we have Bill Byrne who wants both. Or something.
The traditions at A&M have never been more in question but it seems they will be retained for now. At least until the next "100 year decision" to change conferences were to happen.
I just want to know where the students and the band will sit at Kyle Field because there are going to be a lot of Aggies there.
Whoop!

I wish I was a politician...
Then I would know what all the people really want all the time.
Plus, a “traditions council?” Not sure anything could sound more Orwellian.

Next Season
Everything else equal, I’m really enthused for the Horns this coming season and going forward. Everything is not equal however, because everyone can see the multiyear train wreck that is bound for Aggieland. It’s unavoidable, and that makes the wait all the more excruciating.
It will a true test of the Aggie spirit: can they pull together and bring their self loathing and conspiracy paranoia to unprecedented depths, or will they just burn out and get apathetic for a while?

Posted elsewhere, but it fits here too
Some of the posts above indicate no ill will toward agricultural. I guess I’m not a big person, but I have nothing BUT ill will for that bunch.
They’re the biggest hypocrites I’ve seen in my life. agricultural claims reverence for tradition, but has thrown away decades of athletic tradition, while doing its’ best to ruin the conference it’s leaving, and all the while reaching for straws to blame others for its’ actions. agricultural was right there with their hands out to take the money paid by Nebraska and Colorado for leaving, while making (empty) promises to stay in the Big 12. Just as soon as the money was in hand, they cooked up some blatantly bogus reasons involving UT and the LHN to bolt to the SEC. agricultural’s athletic braintrust (There’s an oxymoron for you!) then tried to paint UT as "afraid" to continue the annual games. They’ve continually skipped right by the part where DeLoss Dodds told them as far back as a couple of years ago that UT would no longer play aggy if they left the Big 12. If I had to pick a "coward" in this whole thing, it would be the team that’s skulking out of the Big 12 to become cannon fodder in the SEC. UT has honored its’ word by remaining in the Big 12.
agricultural, with their silly, homoerotic "traditions" and their behavior that’s straight out of "Deliverance" has been a long time embarrassment to the state of Texas. The bad thing about this whole divorce is that they’ve stayed around long enough to wear out their welcome beyond any redemption. Any of us with even a lick of common sense can’t wait to see agricultural gone to the confederacy for good. I know there’s been some talk of a "cooling off period" before consideration of scheduling them again. I think that cooling off period needs to be about what their bow-tied president called it, a 100 year "decision". That will give the cult time to foster their new rivalries with their new found friends, to try to be something better than the third best cow college in the SEC.
I’ll sum this up by saying there is NOTHING I will miss about agricultural. They are cowards, liars, and will fit right in their incestuous new conference. Their decision to leave was way later than it should have been, but a red letter day anyway. There are some people that went to school there that I know and like, but even they are very much in the minority. I do NOT wish them well in their new conference. I’ll take great delight when they’re bent over by their new conference mates and given many doses of prison love. I seriously hope THE University Of Texas NEVER schedules agricultural in any sports in what remains of my life. That bunch deserves every bit of the Sodom and Gomorrah treatment they’re gonna be getting in the SEC. Now…I feel better!

Texas Legislature
I sincerely hope that our conference partners, Baylor, Tech, and TCU, have legislative friends that will back UT legislative friends to soundly block any Ag pressure put on UT to play them. I, too, would like nothing better than to not see them on our schedule again, ever.
Perry had better stay out of this one. I think he has used up all of his political capital, at this point. What a loser!

Won't happen.
Sure, some dipshit will author a bill to get some sound bytes, but it won’t pass. Even our dumbass Lege knows there are more important things to do, and getting any bill passed is a chore, much less some self-serving shit like that.

btw, how many?
How many games does the legislature want to mandate for UT? Don’t they already require that we play one game with a Houston area school?

They had to establish that council.
TAMU had to determine whether the traditions where mythical or long lived, and re-write their histories accordingly.

What about "Texas Fight"?
Should lyrics stay “Goodbye to A&M”?
How bout “Good riddance to A&M”
"Casa de mi Padre" which is Spanish for the vagina of the sun

“and it’s fuck you to A&M” sounds about right to me.
