Big deal
I hit shots like that all the time. Rarely on purpose, though.

glad you posted the aerial
The network coverage with Faldo babbling on about himself and limited camera angles was annoying.
GOLF PRICKS DESERVE BETTER.

Totally.
I heard him say afterwards that he hooked it like 40 yards. No idea during or right after the actual shot. How could CBS f that up so bad?
That is a truly awesome way to win The Masters.
And Faldo and Rick Reilly can’t ever be in the same room. Not enough space.
I hope Faldo is not becoming a tradition unlike any other.

and he's a lefty.
Thanks for the post, I was hoping someone would telestrate the sat photo just to show how incredible that shot really was. The TV coverage did not do it justice.
Not to mention that Bubba is a lefty—that’s no slice, that’s a hook, a much more difficult shot IMHO.

I have sliced one ball in my life time
near that angle on purpose, but a slice is far more easier to hit than a hook, it traveled I would guess 100 yards before it broke right and not in the short space Bubba did (I still can’t imagine the amount of spin he had on that ball), I came no where near the targer, and oh yeah …….. I didn’t even have a beer riding on the shot let alone a massive ass check - 5 year tour exemption - and legendary status. That shot was fucking Roy McAvoy in the flesh.

Love the Masters
and can tolerate the coverage because of limited commercials but everyone one of those golfpricks except Nance had to be shitting thier pants when a real life Bubba hits a shot like that to win. Likely CBS wanted to show the ball flight but Masters censors vetoed that idea.
. Doesn’t fit the “Tradition”. Nance was probably crying before Bubba jwas just thinking of the touchy story he could relate about Bubba. Somewhere Gary McCord is laughing his ass off.
At the Masters Nance sounds like he’s broadcasting from inside the Vatican. Only the “Ahms, Ahms” corus is missing.

If I'm in that position
I pitch out, then immediately find the bunker, take two shots to get out and on the green, and then three putt. A nice smooth 8 that looks great on the card and doesn’t look like I’m trying to impress anyone.
Or what Bubba did.

Not me
I take a full swing like bubba, hit a tree lose that ball, drop, full swing again, lose that ball, throw it into the middle of the fairway, sail one over the green, pick up, go find the cart girl and start drinking heavily.
Pitching out is for pussies.

The hook in that situation with a wedge is a much easier shot to hit than slicing it that far.
If he had had to hit a slice, then I doubt he tries that. Remember that he had a limb he had to stay under about 20 yards in front of him.
That was an unbelievable shot.

The term "power draw"
is preferable to hook. At least when I play it is. I’ve never hit a slice in my life, it’s just a power fade
