Vince Young Wants To Start
VY Forever was just on the radio.
Vince Young’s NFL resume includes being the third overall pick in the NFL Draft, the former face of the Tennessee Titans, NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2006, and a Pro Bowl quarterback. Yet in an offseason full of quarterback musical chairs, Vince Young is still waiting to find his next NFL home. Young has always been a winner dating back to his time at the University of Texas, and he has a knack for making big plays in crunch-time, but he is also inconsistent, extremely polarizing and comes with some baggage.
Fair.
How he would feel about playing in Houston with the Texans:
"I would love to play at home. That would be a dream come true and anything I can do to help out with the team, I just saw Arian Foster the other day and gave him a lot of respect when I saw him and just a lot of history with some of the guys around town anyway that I know from knowing each other a while and always keeping in contact with each other, come to my foundation and charity events and football camps so that would be great. I just let Tom take care of that and let him do his job. All I can do is just stay ready, keep working out and training in Houston and waiting for that opportunity to come."
Vince wants to start. Andy Reid may or may not believe he's a guy who can.
Check it out for yourself using your eyes and/or your ears.

Ain't gonna happen
As much as I would have liked to see Vince play and succeed here in Houston, the Texans want no part of the controversy that it would generate, and I give it very little chance of happening.
It sounds silly, but even last year when Schaub went down and Yates finished out the season, there were a few (minor) rumblings that Yates should start in 2012. I can’t imagine the polarization that would take place among the fanbase with Young playing for the Texans. You’d have UT and hometown Houston-centric fans who would back VY irrespective of performance, countered by the anti-VY crowd (Ags, et al) who would refuse to recognize any positive contribution that he would make. It would be like the Oilers-Bucky Richardson deal all over again.
I’d love to see Young get himself together, find a decent team to play for and finish out his career - I just don’t see it happening in Houston.

Good gosh - there were Texans fans who wanted Yates over Schaub?
Agree that VY’s destiny is very unlikely to be Houston - looking at the landscape a few months ago it was pretty easy to tell that there just weren’t many starting gigs to be had. My hope had been that he’d get to back up, and take over for a struggling starter in, one of Seattle, Arizona or Miami (although Matt Moore was surprisingly un-terrible in the second half of last season).
If GM’s didn’t feel the need to justify their high draft choices/free agent largesse, VY would be an upgrade in Jacksonville, Minnesota, Arizona, Miami, the Jets (Sanchez is flat terrible), and Tennesee (ha!). An OC playing to his strengths also likely gets more out of him in KC or Oakland than they’ll get out of Cassel or Carson Palmer. Landing a backup gig in one of those two spots and waiting for an implosion may be his best bet at this point.
I hope that Andy Reid is praising his attitude and work ethic in private as fervently as he’s praising Vince in public - his opinion has to carry a good amount of weight in QB-centric matters. He flashed some real talent but also made some terrible decisions during his Philly starts, so hopefully Reid’s opinion can swing things towards the positive. I think he’ll get one more shot as a backup stepping in when a starter goes down, and I hope he’s 100% prepared to take his best advantage of it as it may be his last one.

Believe it or not...
Just a few idiots hollering in the woods, but yes - there were a handful who thought Yates would be ready to start over Schaub in 2012.
Proving once again that anyone with access to a radio & telephone can reveal their ignorance about sports to potentially millions at once.

Is this the new off-season standard?
“Where will Vince end up?! Some people want him to go to the Texans!”
This story is getting old, unfortunately. His highlight videos never do, fortunately.

If people think Fisher had problems
with VY at quarterback Kubiak’s head might explode.
Gary is so damn regemented I bet he is one of those guys who has blocked on his daily calender when and how long he will take a shit each morning.

I'd like for Vince to start as well.
Not going to happen though. He blew his most recent opportunities backing up Vick, so he’s going to have to be a backup QB, an Austin area entrepreneur, or unemployed.
