Around SBN: Is Mike Brown's Job on the Line in Game Seven?

Well we're movin' on up...

...or over.

I have just heard from the mad scientists at SB Nation and apparently there's a pretty good chance we'll be moving over to the SB Nation platform pretty soon, the process may be starting in the next 24-48 hours. Yea, mobile apps!

If you haven't already registered your account, you may want to skeedaddle over there and do so.

Stay tuned.

Excellent news!

Great news.

by Bud Elliott on Jan 18, 2026 6:45 AM CST reply actions

So, uh, what does that mean?

Merger with BON?

Two separate but equal Texas sites?

by CMDR on Jan 18, 2026 7:28 AM CST reply actions

So, if I’m registered at Burnt Orange Nation, will I just be able to add BC as one of my blogs?

by Sasha is a Longhorn Dog on Jan 18, 2026 7:41 AM CST reply actions

Cool. Double checking that you can’t edit comments on SB Nation confirms that this is a natural fit.

by triplehorn on Jan 18, 2026 7:45 AM CST reply actions

’Bout effing time! Glad to see this happening.

@ SiaLHD - Yes…

by D.C. Horn on Jan 18, 2026 8:00 AM CST reply actions

Change is scary. And apparently, someone over there has the same handle I use here. No es bueno.

by WanderingHorn on Jan 18, 2026 8:03 AM CST reply actions

Dang, I guess I’ll have to dust off that old BON log in…

by Ricky on Jan 18, 2026 9:19 AM CST reply actions

So if the site goes down today, it’s NOT a SOPA protest?

by Vulcan on Jan 18, 2026 9:27 AM CST reply actions

Change is scary.

Especially when you’re old.

I am about to find out if you can indeed teach an old dog new tricks.

by srr50 on Jan 18, 2026 9:29 AM CST reply actions

Vulcan must have used the mind meld cause I was thinking the same thing.

How much sway do you guys have in the mobile app department? I’m not sure if it’s just me, but the SB Nation app for my iphone (3gs) takes forever to load. It wasn’t like that when I first downloaded it.

by redfoot on Jan 18, 2026 9:31 AM CST reply actions

Redfoot -

Not just you. While I like the mobile app (it makes it WAY easier to read posts and comments since they’re all reformatted for the small screen) the load times are just ridiculous. I’m not sure what it’s doing, but it almost seems like the app is updating/refreshing every article on every site I’m a member of, in the background, before presenting me with any kind of view. I say this because once the initial view is updated, tapping on a story actually presents the article fairly quickly.

by adt2 on Jan 18, 2026 10:08 AM CST reply actions

That site is very cluttered and is not very user friendly. It certainly looks high tech, but that only adds to the clutter of adds and headlines.

by Flash on Jan 18, 2026 10:08 AM CST reply actions

Congrats! and Flash beat me to my second comment. I like the aesthetics of this site WAY better.

by Texastough on Jan 18, 2026 10:20 AM CST reply actions

Can I still type in www.barkingcarnival.com and get to this website?

by Wulaw Horn on Jan 18, 2026 10:33 AM CST reply actions

I agree with Flash and Texastough. The format of this site is awesome, but perhaps that’s just because I’ve gotten used to it over the last 3.5 years.

by redfoot on Jan 18, 2026 10:39 AM CST reply actions

so, the other shoe drops.

this has been an extremely remarkable place. remarkable in ways the corporate world would never permit. my deepest thanks and most profound respect for the various parties who made this possible and kept it alive so long. with the dogs of commerce nipping at every heel and the embalming fluid of zombie journalism ever at the ready, this place has held on an unseemly long time to the benefit of us all. there have been times that most of the comments on this site were probably at least glanced at by most of the hot dog writers in college football, and stories about this place may be told for another generation.

do yourself a favor and make a screen grab of the barking carnival and recruitocosm main pages and others if they have been of interest to you. may come a time you would like to remember what it was like here in the glory days, and those screen grabs would be helpful.

by yeh on Jan 18, 2026 10:53 AM CST reply actions

Uh, yeah yey, agree!

For want of a better place to put this, is this the swagger that Dre Kirkpatrick was referring to when chose to play for Nick Satan rather than Mack?:

by dasmithjones on Jan 18, 2026 11:11 AM CST reply actions

yeh and others -

Don’t be afeared about anything relating to the content, tone or tenor of this site - there are certainly no editorial mandates that I’m aware of to do anything other than what we’ve been doing. I’ve frequented some SBNation blogs for a while - in addition to BON I’m a member on Blogging the Boys (Cowboys) and LoneStarBall (Rangers). Blogging the Boys keeps to a pretty strait-laced and PG approach while LoneStarBall might be the cussingest place on the Internet - point being that I haven’t detected any kind of corporate influence or oversight that seeks to make any blog anything other than what its editorial group and community want it to be.

In terms of the SBNation layout and functionality it will take a bit of getting used to, but there are a couple of features that I’m excited about given the high caliber of our readership. The first is the ability for everyone to get more involved in sharing thoughts through the FanPost/FanShot feature (can’t recall which one is which) - you can basically create your own post of whatever length and on whatever topic you choose that can be replied to like a main board post. Not sure whether or not everyone’s would get featured in the main ‘timeline’ but most SBNation sites have a dedicated FanPost/FanShot section where you can see the latest and most popular/replied-to posts. With a long, bleak offseason looming, I’m looking forward to interesting posts from you guys (and gals, assuming Sasha makes the jump along with us) on a wide range of topics.

The second is the ‘nested comments’ feature within the comments section - basically, you can reply to a specific post or reply to a reply and keep a sub-conversation going within the main thread, which can be tough to do in a completely linear format like FanTake’s. Now God help us when zzzizzzy or Mysterious Package create a 300-post anti-Mack subthread, but on the whole that feature tends to be mostly to the good.

All the same, it’s good advice to take some screencaps of this place - it’s my most favoritest blog ever, and its aesthetic will always bring back some fond memories.

Is this the change Obama was talking about?

Fellache. Nice one!!!!!!!!!!

by horns 05 on Jan 18, 2026 2:11 PM CST reply actions

Vasherized deletes most of my stuff unread, so the censorship will continue unabated.

by The General on Jan 18, 2026 4:29 PM CST reply actions

One thing I’ve noticed comparing BC to BON is that the average length of comment is maybe three times longer here. The lack of nesting forces people to get it all out at once I guess.

Either that, or we’re just bigger assholes.

by Dagga Roosta on Jan 18, 2026 6:42 PM CST reply actions

this is awesome news.

by mattdubya on Jan 18, 2026 7:44 PM CST reply actions

I am in this purely for the pretty girls.

Hey! :’(

(Just teasing)

by Sasha is a Longhorn Dog on Jan 18, 2026 8:23 PM CST reply actions

nobis60,

Any chance sbnation gives users the option of how they’d like to view the comments?

One of the things I like most about the fantake format is the linear comments. I like to read all comments and pick up where I left off when I revisit. The comments within comments makes some newer stuff harder to find.

by Saul on Jan 18, 2026 9:00 PM CST reply actions

Looking forward to following y’all on SBNation

by paperjames on Jan 18, 2026 9:12 PM CST reply actions

Can we HAS the spell checker and the ability to edit our error-prone posts now? :)

by Stiendam Hall on Jan 18, 2026 9:21 PM CST reply actions

BON is full of fruitloops. Sorry to see you go.

by Mansker on Jan 18, 2026 10:35 PM CST reply actions

Saul —

This is what I see alot and it confuses me. I, for one, hate that if I’m having a conversation, debate, or engaging discourse with someone on here, it gets muddled by multiple other posts. This is where I think the SBN format will come in handy, as you can directly reply to the person, rather than go to the bottom of the thread. This keeps those who like to derail a thread from affecting the “flow” of the thread, because it has its own tangent. You don’t have to worry about looking for newer comments within threads because they are of a different color than older comments.

Stiendam Hall —

Yes and no. When commenting, you do not have the ability to spell check (use safari or Chrome), however, when making a Fan Post or a Fan Shot, you do have the ability to completely edit whatever you post.

by Kasey on Jan 18, 2026 10:40 PM CST reply actions

After signing day and possibly junior days who is going to care what the blogs or websites are doing on the internet. March-August are boring months for UT football. BON is a great site it just takes so long for the site to upload.

by striker on Jan 18, 2026 11:20 PM CST reply actions

What about Scripio Tex? Where’s he headed?

by Hooked4life on Jan 18, 2026 11:22 PM CST reply actions

Been trying to get a confirmation email out of ’em over there for the last 8 hours - no luck. Their customer service has flatlined…….

by REMAN on Jan 18, 2026 11:39 PM CST reply actions

The BON layout isn’t bad. I’ve been on there a while and have made a few FanPosts as well. The real time updating is a nice thing though (comment-wise).

I suspect the layout for BC wouldn’t be quite as cluttered as BON. BON isn’t really cluttered compared to others either. So, this will likely be somewhat of an improvement. We shall see.

by STLaw on Jan 19, 2026 12:09 AM CST reply actions

Kasey,

Not sure color completely solves the issue, but better than nothing. Thanks for the note.

by Saul on Jan 19, 2026 12:18 AM CST reply actions

You guys still here?

Patiently awaiting the sbnation rapture.

by CMDR on Jan 19, 2026 7:37 AM CST reply actions

I always liked that barking carnival was independent. It have it more credibility somehow… And it kept the craziest of the crazy away, not sure how but it did. I can’t help but think that the sbnation migration will take us one step closer to YouTube comments. Random people arguing with random people… Not the same as the true community we have here.

by Bunbury on Jan 19, 2026 8:52 AM CST reply actions

Well, I love a number of the SB Nation blogs and the app, so I love this change.

On the other hand, someone already has my handle, so I will hate this change until Bob Stoops’ long lost chin returns to claim vengeance and the life that was rightfully his.

by hoyahorn on Jan 19, 2026 9:03 AM CST reply actions

Will the Author Archives survive the change? I’d really miss not being able to re-read a Mack Adams Story when I’m in the mood.

by fwhorn on Jan 19, 2026 9:40 AM CST reply actions

“really miss being able” Editing comments will be nice.

by fwhorn on Jan 19, 2026 9:43 AM CST reply actions

Bill,

Part of the long wait for this has been waiting for the SBN techies to migrate the archives over. So, I think the answer is yes. But, only the tethered Laotian prostitute is less well informed than I am. And that is only because he/she doesn’t speak English. Lord knows he/she listens to quite a bit of office BS, holding the dual title of Ombudsman.

by The General on Jan 19, 2026 10:00 AM CST reply actions

awesome, dude

by Heather Montgomery on Jan 19, 2026 10:01 AM CST reply actions

yeh -

The ‘unseemly’ will continue unabated.

The editorial direction of the site will not change. Which is to say, very little editorial direction will remain the norm.

Scipio Tex goes where the Carnival goes. He’s become rather enamored of Bing Bong III the new tethered Laotian prostitute.

Also, lots of very cool tweaks coming to SB Nation.

And yes, comments you can edit. If I had a nickel…

by Sailor Ripley on Jan 19, 2026 10:53 AM CST reply actions

Will there be donuts?

by Team Dirty Leg on Jan 19, 2026 10:58 AM CST reply actions

Wait…there’s a NEW Laotian prostitute?

by WanderingHorn on Jan 19, 2026 12:02 PM CST reply actions

As long as SBNation doesn’t object to ‘tethered Laotian prostitute’ tags, we should all be in fine fettle over there.

by nobis60 on Jan 19, 2026 12:11 PM CST reply actions

There is enough stupid shit in the comments section as it is, giving the morons the ability to easily make posts will only make it worse. I’d say for ever one good fanpost there are 50 worthless ones. Now ‘gay’ and commentors like him will get to make their own posts. At least the nested comments will make it easier to scroll pasts their waste of words.

by ut-06 on Jan 19, 2026 12:28 PM CST reply actions

Really going to miss the Fantake/BC. But I’m old and set in my ways.

As an infrequent poster, I’ve really enjoyed reading the (mostly) well-presented comments without the strident name-calling (uh, Heather? Heather?).

With BC’s passing I’ll try to suck it up and follow the group to BOR. Peace.

by AKHorn on Jan 19, 2026 3:12 PM CST reply actions

Let’s be clear:

Barking Carnival will still be its own site.

It will be located at the familiar DNS location of: www.barkingcarnival.com

There will still be pretty girls and tethered Laotian Pros.

And editable comments.

by Sailor Ripley on Jan 19, 2026 3:59 PM CST reply actions

Count me as excited, Sailor.

And y’all are going to force me to link to CNN’s Freedom Project page, aren’t y’all. Sigh.

There will still be pretty girls and tethered Laotian Pros.

So then you’ve confirmed Sasha is gonna move over. That’s in reference to the pretty girls, not the ….. oh never mind.

by Nunna Yo Bizness on Jan 19, 2026 9:51 PM CST reply actions

Congrats on the move. It’s about time you guys dump this old ass format you have here where I actually have to refresh to see if anyone has responded to my brilliant points. What is this, 1996? Be warn, though, SBNation has a lot of coolaid drinking dumbasses. Trying to talk sense to these morons in 2010 was like Mack Brown trying to “fix” his team.
