Does this mean the 'No commits on Junior Day!!!' alert can stand down to Defcon Two?
Great get. May this new model of ‘build momentum slowly with studs and eschew Camp Fever offers’ guide us in the seasons to come.

He already looks pissed off!
With Raulerson and Oliver and now, this guy - we are accumulating a core of bad boys that are going to scare hell out of incoming freshmen, in future years.

Questions abound
Like, is this going to stick? Did the staff tell him he could get a look at DT? What happened to all the talk of Flenory?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all colors of excited for this commitment, just surprised. Either way, welcome aboard A’Shawn!
You can charge that to the game!

The commitment answers the Flenory questions.

I am concerned as well
I get the impression that A’Shawn is not sure he wants to be at Texas. After all, if he was definite, he’d be named The’Shawn.

I like him at DT
Especially with this year’s shallow dt pool

From ESPN's William Wilkerson
Just spoke with Robinson. Texas wants him as a defensive tackle and not offensive.

Hmm interesting
so I’m guessing we still have room for both Ish and JJ, if we want. Cool.

Defensive tackle makes sense
We brought in 5 O-linemen a year ago, 4 in the most recent signing class (1 JC), and project to get another 4 or so in 2013.
We lost a DT recently (Howell) and will have three seniors on the 2013 team (Dorsey, Whaley, Moore), plus Malcom Brown may be three-and-gone after 2014 . . . so the DT roster will thin out a bunch at the time A’Shawn should be ready to contribute.

Conventional recruiting wisdom
seems to have historically been that really good DT’s/DE’s don’t come along that often and it’s a good idea to take ’em if you can get ’em.

A'Shawn
Three verbals, three Top 10 players in the state.
I much prefer him on offense, but I’ll keep an open mind for his senior season. I think he’s a three star DT and a high four star OL prospect. Robinson has so much Blalockian width and such a powerful natural anchor in his pass set up that he just has to shuffle his feet a bit to stonewall the defensive end; pass rushers ricochet off of him helplessly like sparrows on a sliding glass door.

Good scouting report. Thanks. I'll take another Justin B
Like I said on BON — get the talent on campus, figure out the position/side of the ball at a later date.

Not worried about position right now
He’s a 6-4, 300 lb basketball player that enjoys making people suffer, and as you’ve pointed out before, that’s a take. Right now it doesn’t look like we’ll need him right away on either side so if it takes a year to show the kid where his natural talents lie, so be it. And besides, I like the O-line candidates who want to play defense. Shows they’re aggressive.

Think Mack is just allowing for the possibility.
This quote from a Suchomel report on OB:
Robinson has the potential to star on either side of the ball, but he’s said previously that he’d like to play on defense. On Thursday, he said the Texas coaches have told him he can have his shot on that side of the ball…
Love this strategy. No real deceit in this, and the kid gets his shot at the side he wants.

Ha ha.
All of Geoff’s writing begins with college football “collectively gasping” or “shell-shocked” after some incredibly innocuous event unfolding - like a player running for a six yard gain or a recruit committing to his home school. BRAVE NEW WORLD!

Should've Known.
I clicked a link from Suchomel, and assumed he was the author. When I checked the headline to type it in for the link I thought it seemed a bit, uh, over the top. Makes sense now. Another Ketchism from the radio, “You’re not gonna believe this…”

I actually never give Ketch shit
He created a brand that works. But the writing style does crack me up.
by Scipio Tex on Feb 16, 2026 3:15 PM CST up reply actions
He's savvy for sure.
I don’t know if it’s equal parts dumb luck and being in the right place at the right time, but he built something before ESPN and others began cashing in so I tip my hat to him on that.

I’m going to ask the “competition” question. Part of that is because he looks like he is playing against midgets. Is he playing against decent 4 or 5 A competition, and is he really THAT much bigger? I can’t imagine lining up against him in high school…or now.
by UT_BKC on Feb 16, 2026 7:43 PM CST up reply actions
The first team is Brewer High School from White Settlement.
Not exactly a bastion of athletes over the years.
I am not certain of the team in purple. It could be Pascal but if it is FWISD they aren’t coached worth a crap.
Regardless of that though is the kid moves his feet really well and I like how he seeks out people to hit,

Show Him the Money
As someone else wrote elsewhere, we definitely should give him a shot at defensive tackle but somewhere along the way show him the pay scale for NFL offensive tackles.
by Huck L Berry on Feb 16, 2026 2:28 PM CST reply actions
He'll wind up
On OL. You get a guy like this in the fold and let nature take its course with respect to position. I’d be shocked if he plays DT for us.
You can charge that to the game!
by T1climb1 on Feb 16, 2026 2:33 PM CST via mobile reply actions
Offer at DT or wherever it takes to get him on campus
This is what I’ve wanted the staff to do and they did it to perfection. I think he ends up at OL. OG if he maintains weight, OT if he gains a bit. Either way, this is a kid who’s versatile and a badass…you don’t pass these recruits up.

Coaches gotta play the game
Almost every HS back/receiver wants to play offense at the next level
Almost every HS lineman wants to play defense at the next level
