The new look
As I said on Scipio’s DE piece, I like the restraint you exercised in transitioning to the new format — not too, too busy.
The ad-server continues to be creepy (I presume it uses old google search cookies/zip code info and such). Getting the “No Contest Divorce in VA; Divorce CAN Be Cheap & Easy. Let Us Help You Get Divorced Easily; DivorceVirginia.net” link while surfing a blog that has contributed mightily to marital discord (“I thought football season was over. What are you looking at …?”), is a bit too targeted.
As others have said, it is nice to check BC, BON (and for me, Frog’oWar), and the rest in one stop. Thanks for continuing to bring us the best blog evah!

I've always liked the BON format
Being able to comment directly to a post is a great feature. I also liked the clean look of the Barking Carnival and Recruitocosm, but I think this format works better overall. Much better than IT, I don’t like that format at all. Congrats on the new site.

and actually, I’ve moved to a different computer, and it’s not there. It’s no biggie in any case, it was a throwaway comment. I just don’t want that to happen after typing out a long considered response. So if there’s some disappearing comment bug I’d like to know. Sounds like that’s not the case though, or someone would have said something to that effect by now.

Something happened a few days ago to the SBN server
Now, when I try to open one of my saved SBN sites, I get theis pop up:
The web address you entered could not be found

shift + A will mark all comments on a page as read
Having “View” and “Wide” (way up at the top right sidebar) helps when a particular subthread goes on long and moves way to the right of your browser.
When you post a picture, putting anything in the subject line, even “……….” allows folks to click on the subject and collapse for work, slow computer, and mobile users.
And Z is awesome.

I like the traditional Uni’s, but if getting new tricked out Uniforms keeps the talent level up.. Hard to say no. I do hope they are not TOO over the top however.

In a word: too busy. Way. Way. Way. Way. Way too busy.
I hear what y’all are saying about added features, and I am going to try to fight through it. Maybe as an added bonus I’ll get to where I can enjoy BON, too. My friend swears by it.
But the value of BC, for me, was always way more about the info I was taking in much, much more than the info exchanged in the comments.
And, quite simply, I far prefer the clean, easy to navigate fantake homepage layout to this one.
I’m probably in the minority, which is fine. I don’t intend to keep going on and on about it, but I will answer questions. I’m probably not the only one not all peaches and herb with the new boss.

But, I tend to disagree a bit on the issue you raised about the source of the information you get. Perhaps this was more of a function of the readership (see, the “not suffering fools” line of comments elsewhere here) than the format, but I found that I gained a lot of insight from the comments. Maybe not as much as the initial post, but things were often explored more fully and cleared up. Any way to make them more easy to navigate would, in my mind be a positive.
Hopefully, we can all learn to use the tiered comments structure effectively so we don’t get things too side-tracked (which I admit I was guilty of myself on occasion).

I think the commenting is far more advanced (and better) here than on the Fantake sites, and that’s what I was thinking when I read your comment.
I can agree that the homepage is quite active though. Perhaps excessively active. Supposedly they’re releasing a new version of their software soon that will clean it up some. Until then, keep fighting the good fight, man!

Looks great, fellas, and SBN is thrilled to be adding such a fantastic group of writers and commenters to the network.
To those of you whining about the layout, etc… just give it a little while. You’ve just been given infinitely more power and voice as a community. I remember the same pearl-clutching from the EDSBS readership, until they quickly discovered that their playground just got a whole lot bigger, and populated with lots of cooler toys.
Hopefully SBN will improve the layout in the forthcoming redesign, but before you condemn the move as unwelcome, wait to see if you don’t find all the other benefits to be more than worth it.
In any event, thrilled to have everyone join the romper room, and excited to see BC thrive in its new home.

I remember the same pearl-clutching from the EDSBS readership, until they quickly discovered that their playground just got a whole lot bigger, and populated with lots of cooler toys.
EDSBS would average about 30-60 comments for each article Spencer wrote, and since the SBN branding its hard to find a fanshot that doesn’t have over 1200 comments on it.
Aside from change, I don’t see the negatives of this site compared to the old BC. Like, I can’t fathom a single one. Would someone care to explain/enlighten, por favor?

Here what I had to do to comment
My rss reader doesn’t like logging in to sbnation and it appears that there’s no way for me to get the sbnation app on my kindle without rooting it (even though it’s android) , so I have switch over to my webbrowser. After about 8 humorous misspelling/attempts to type in barkingcarnival.com, I finally arrive on the site. Then I fold some laundry.
I click the link for this page but miss, opening up a budwiser ad. I close that and finally get to my page. I scroll to that bottom and realize I still need to log in. If I were new to sbnation, at this point I’d have to go through the hassle of creating an account. Then I make breakfast.
After I log in, I excitedly scroll down to type my witty reply, but now I have to join and accept the terms.
Finally I get to type my post.
But, with many sbnation sites there’s a waiting period. I’m still not sure if this post will go through until I click post. Commenting on sbnation is pretty wonky on the kindle, so this.post.wasn’t easy.
On fantake I could post through the rss reader, skipping this whole process.
In my case this might be addition through subtraction, but sbnation is far more difficult to post comments.
Now for my original intended comment (you can judge my contribution): I like cheese. I mean, I really like it.

Short version is that I almost never comment on sbnation threads because it’s such a pain. Even on my computer, where the mobile irritations aren’t there, it’ still far easier to comment on fantake.

Peter, thanks for not being overly sensitive to the criticisms.
I do intend to try to get used to it, but since you’ve mentioned a redesign, allow me to advocate for a much cleaner, less busy/cluttered homepage.
I hear what you’re saying about power/voice/community, but just speaking for myself personally, that’s not a selling point I’m that interested in.
The value, for me and perhaps others, is in easily being able to find the extremely well-written content y’all provide. Cleaner is better!

New site design
I don’t mean to be a hater, but as a Designer this site layout is absolutely horrible. I have no friggin’ idea what to look at. While I understand the necessity of ads, their placement is completely obnoxious and distracting. I appreciate the greater functionality and more options to engage with you guys, but this site is absolutely a hot mess and kind of makes me not want to read it as often or as thoroughly. Get a web designer on this quickly. I say all of this out of love because I am addicted to this site. I prefer my fix in the form of a sweet hashessh groove like the previous site, as opposed to the Chris Farley-killing 8-ball vibe this one has.
