Texas Longhorns vs Missouri Tigers Live Game Thread
Missouri's guards are great, but Ricardo Raitliffe is the straw that stirs their drink.
Time for you to be...J'Covan'd!

Frank Haith is a witch.
If can stop DGB from committing, we have a chance.

Headed to Scholz for some refreshments and then the Erwin Center. Who knows, maybe I might actually try out this twitter thing while there.

Light rain has started to fall in Austin — take the under.
by srr50 on Jan 30, 2026 6:21 PM CST reply actions
We cut out the turnovers and we’re in good shape.
Kabongo is stopping the offense early.
by Scipio Tex on Jan 30, 2026 8:28 PM CST reply actions
Lots of good looks just not falling. Barnes clearly wants his guys getting into the paint knowing we can rebound against their zone but Kabongo is having trouble finding our big men.
Mizzou looks slightly disinterested.
Is it too early to predict a close loss due to a turnover or poor shot selection on our last possession?
by Vasherized on Jan 30, 2026 8:39 PM CST reply actions
how do you get beat down the court off a missed free throw rebound? lazy shit there.
by Vasherized on Jan 30, 2026 8:41 PM CST reply actions
Ha. Bobby knight just contradicted his own comment from five minutes ago.
“If you move into the path of the dribbler you’ll get hit with a blocking call every time.”
“Moving into the path of the guy with the ball is a great way to draw a charge.”
by Vasherized on Jan 30, 2026 8:46 PM CST reply actions
I enjoy the two statues post offense.
Plant yourself outside the lane on each side, grimace with your hand up to pretend you actually want the ball, and make sure not to screen, move, or go high-low.
by Scipio Tex on Jan 30, 2026 8:46 PM CST reply actions
Apparently, feeding the post IS IMPOSSIBLY HARD

There’s a lot of competition for that award.
On pace for 44!
by Vasherized on Jan 30, 2026 8:54 PM CST reply actions
and has a Longhorn ever had ZERO assists in one half?
by Texoz on Jan 30, 2026 8:55 PM CST reply actions
First time participate to a game thread…
I was really impressed with Julien Lewis’ ability to get to and finish at the basket, but we can’t expect that to continue in the 2nd half.
Kabongo continues to frustrate, but that 2nd foul looked like BS. The offensive player shoved him away with his forearm and Kabongo’s contact looked minimal (if any)…
The lazy pass around the perimeter was nothing new and that’s the single most frustrating part of this Texas team to me.
But the lousy play of the first half gives me optimism for the 2nd. These good looks will start to fall.
by texasengr on Jan 30, 2026 9:09 PM CST reply actions
Unfortunately, Missouri’s good looks are starting to fall.
by Scipio Tex on Jan 30, 2026 9:18 PM CST reply actions
12 point deficit. terrible defense, poor offense. no movement.
Great game!
by Vasherized on Jan 30, 2026 9:18 PM CST reply actions
Optimism being reconsidered…
Getting them in foul trouble appears to be the only hope.
by texasengr on Jan 30, 2026 9:21 PM CST reply actions
Ratliffe has 3 fouls and we’re allowing their guards to simply face up and shoot on us.
How about extending on defense, planting Chapman in front of the basket, and forcing them to drive?
We’d have a chance to create offense off of the misses going the other way because our half court sets look like a nursing home orgy.
by Scipio Tex on Jan 30, 2026 9:21 PM CST reply actions
Our big men could use a septuagenarian slump buster.
FIELD GOAL WITH ASSIST STYLE BASKET SCORE TEXAS!

Scariest 13 loss team in the country by the end of the season.
by Vasherized on Jan 30, 2026 9:33 PM CST reply actions
Nice pass to the post and finish by Chapman.
J’Covan playing like he gives a shit now. He slept through the first half.
by Vasherized on Jan 30, 2026 9:35 PM CST reply actions
We need to push the ball a little harder off of Missouri misses.
Both Mizzou bigs with 3 fouls now.
by Scipio Tex on Jan 30, 2026 9:36 PM CST reply actions
Ratliffe, on the other hand, is a bad ass.
KABONGP3WND.
by Vasherized on Jan 30, 2026 9:38 PM CST reply actions
Can we make a bucket and perhaps prevent them from doing the same on the next possession?
by Vasherized on Jan 30, 2026 9:38 PM CST reply actions
Our big men are finally showing a little stubbornness in there.
4 fouls on Moore and Ratliffe back.
by Scipio Tex on Jan 30, 2026 9:39 PM CST reply actions
How did Pressey get away?
The horns have shown great heart again.
by Groundhog Day on Jan 30, 2026 9:39 PM CST reply actions
We definitely have a pattern.
Kabongo disappoints me almost every game with piss poor ball handling.
by Savage Henry on Jan 30, 2026 9:41 PM CST reply actions
That’s why we can’t win games. Frosh mistakes. That’s huge. He passed up a wide open shot, gets the ball stolen and fouls with mizzou getting an extra possession.
by Groundhog Day on Jan 30, 2026 9:41 PM CST reply actions
Actually, the problem is we’re just not very damn good
by RS on Jan 30, 2026 9:42 PM CST reply actions
Kabongo killed us with that play.
And the officials are making damn sure there’s no home court advantage.
by Scipio Tex on Jan 30, 2026 9:42 PM CST reply actions

by jinx on Jan 30, 2026 9:46 PM CST reply actions
where was the foul there? Refs are trying a little hard to make this an even contest.
Terrible game for Myck.
by Vasherized on Jan 30, 2026 9:48 PM CST reply actions
Kabongo is absolutely murdering us. You have to get him off the court, fouls or not.
by Scipio Tex on Jan 30, 2026 9:48 PM CST reply actions
Kabongo lacks focus. In crunchtime that’s the most important thing.
by Monahorns on Jan 30, 2026 9:48 PM CST reply actions
Nice work, Holmes. Jay Bilas loves your length.
by Vasherized on Jan 30, 2026 9:49 PM CST reply actions

by Monahorns on Jan 30, 2026 9:49 PM CST reply actions
Wow. Everything is and ones with this team. Did it against KU, Baylor and now Mizzou. If you aren’t going to play defense, don’t add an extra point to your laziness.
by Monahorns on Jan 30, 2026 9:50 PM CST reply actions
Pressey is a class little point guard.
You’ve been watching too much English Premier League soccer.
by Vasherized on Jan 30, 2026 9:50 PM CST reply actions
Sorry guys, Chapman sucks. There is no way that guy makes an NBA roster as someone alluded to on the baylor thread. He’s getting abused on the defensive end.
by Groundhog Day on Jan 30, 2026 9:50 PM CST reply actions
At least they have the rave music cranking. That is sure to get the blue hairs pumped up!
by jinx on Jan 30, 2026 9:51 PM CST reply actions
Just like that, back to an 8 point deficit. An offensive run for this team consists of a 4 point outburst followed by a foul/defensive lapse/and one.

What really sucks is Joseph and Hamilton aren’t doing shit this year!
by Savage Henry on Jan 30, 2026 9:53 PM CST reply actions
I really enjoy watching jbrown play, but we are never going to win a game down the stretch with him taking every shot. One of these young fellas need to step up late.
by HornsNight24 on Jan 30, 2026 9:54 PM CST reply actions
Wide open 3. Poor defense continues. Maybe they turn it around and win, but honestly I don’t see improvement during end of game situations this year. They play tough, give them that, but same mistakes are killing them: lax defense, weak fouling to give the extra FT, missing FTs, and JB is the only one with the ball. Don’t know what it will take on the offensive end but you still need to run offense and have players creating for others not going 1 on 5.
by Monahorns on Jan 30, 2026 9:55 PM CST reply actions
Myck needed that 3.
They’re reeling me back in, goddamnit.

by UT07 on Jan 30, 2026 10:14 PM CST reply actions
In hindsight, they probably should’ve called timeout when Mizzou came out in a zone. Though if the ball doesn’t slip out of Kabongo’s hands he might’ve hit that runner in the end.
by Puedlfor on Jan 30, 2026 10:14 PM CST reply actions
Yeah, same problems. They played tough. Rebounded very well, but just too many freshmen things going on. Lewis was in a tough spot with Dixon but personally I play off him a tad and make him shoot over me. Then zone defense totally stumped them. What made it hard to diagnose was that the offense was so passive early into the possession. It wasn’t until JB got the ball on the left wing that you could tell but they had wasted too much time. WIth all that, JB makes a great skip pass to Kabongo. Kabongo just has no confidence. He looked tentative on that drive and didn’t have good control of the ball as he went up. A confident Kabongo scores on that drive and wins the game. Oh well.

Holley Rowe, leave the talking to the experts hun. Sigh, another loss. Just can’t pull these out. No wins for us as underdogs. No upsets. This has to be the first season for that under Barnes??

by texasengr on Jan 30, 2026 10:44 PM CST reply actions
Missouri ran its off-the-ball screen offense as crisply and with authority as Michigan State.
by srr50 on Jan 30, 2026 10:49 PM CST reply actions
Good observation, SRR. They have a great backcourt. It doesn’t matter how many different sets you have as long as you run those extremely well.
I’m still beside myself over our final possession. You could have played 2 for 1, but if you don’t make sure to get a good look. I don’t quite know why Kabongo lacks confidence but you can see that he does.
by Groundhog Day on Jan 30, 2026 11:03 PM CST reply actions
I’ve got a theory. I think Barnes is sabotaging Kabongo & Brown so that they return for one more year.
I also think Sasquatch is an alien that remember where he parked his spacecraft.
by Texoz on Jan 30, 2026 11:08 PM CST reply actions
Damn Missouri. Guarding J’Covan at the end. Who could have guessed? I think they spied on our practices.

“I’ve got a theory. I think Barnes is sabotaging Kabongo & Brown so that they return for one more year.”
Based on recent players, the sabotaged are the ones who go pro early.
by jinx on Jan 31, 2026 7:55 AM CST reply actions
How many times can you flip a coin in a row and have it come up tails? 2012 Texas Basketball is trying to determine that right now.
I think that yall are a little hard on the “can’t get a shot up meme” for the end of the game. That was a nice look by J’Covan and a nice decision to penetrate by Myck.
He had a choice to pull up and shoot a wide open 15 footer, or to go glass on a drive like J’covan and the Mizzou kid did before. He chose something in between, lost control of the ball or something and shot putted it up at the rim. It was weird looking, the play didn’t look really pretty as it was developing, but with average execution from Myck that could have been a hoop.
I guess what I’m saying is that if Myck has an open lane with the ball in his hands and less than 5 seconds left against the #4 team in the country I will take that every time.
As a side note- TJ finishes that play with ease. Myck is no TJ (at least not yet) and I think he ought to stick around another year. Thing is, I’m sure he will find someone who will promise him they will take him in the first round and he will be gone.
by Wulaw Horn on Jan 31, 2026 9:22 AM CST reply actions
I wouldn’t take Myck in that position, not this year. I wish someone else would have had the ball. Even Lewis has shown more confidence in taking a shot than Myck. He had a nice shot on a spot from JB a few possessions earlier though.
by Monahorns on Jan 31, 2026 10:02 AM CST reply actions
Well it can’t hurt our chances of convincing Myck to stay another year that several top players didn’t come out last year because of the NBA lockout. I don’t know that I see a Kevin Durant or Derrick Rose or Derek Griffin at the top, but this draft class looks to be pretty deep. Maybe that pushes Myck and J’Covan into the second round and we get to see them team up with an actual inside presence, Cameron Ridley. Cross your fingers, cause that could be pretty fun for Texas basketball fans.
by Andrew Wiggin on Jan 31, 2026 10:44 AM CST reply actions
Without a reliable true point guard, it’s harder to close out games. TJ and DJ were that the day they walked on campus. Myck isn’t. They also had, in TJ’s case, experienced guys around them and, in DJ’s case, the best player we’ll ever have. I believe Scipio made a point about Kabongo in a previous post not having been a true PG in high school. He just isn’t there yet or he’d have made the shot or gotten it to someone who would have had a good look. J’Covan made the right play to get the ball to him. He just couldn’t close the deal. But he’s the key to whether we start to win some of these nailbiters, whether we like it or not.
Will he stay long enough to learn or go the “earn while you learn” plan? Who knows?
