If this kid really gets his throwing at a higher level...watch out
The measurements and playmaking alone have me excited!

When did they start allowing DEs play QB?
6-5 225lbs, as HS kid. Much thicker and polished thrower than VY at this stage IMO. The measurables look there already but does he possess that VY swagger?
"Casa de mi Padre" which is Spanish for the vagina of the sun

Swagger not there yet
Remember that VY didn’t come into the program all blustery and fire. It took him more than a year to really take charge of the players and to put his brand of leadership out there for the team to follow. Once he did, everyone followed his lead including the coaches.
Swoopes mechanics impressed me more than I thought they would. Watching him move with the ball and sling it with the coaches birddogging his every move was good to see. I see a lot less mechanical issues with him that I expected to and if he spends as much of the summer at camps and at UT as he has voiced his plans to do so, he will come into the program much more advanced at the same age range than Vince.

I agree for the most part
I say he gets 2 good years of starter time. Depends on how Brewer develops. I’m just glad we are going to have that luxury problem now!

So, what are we going to do with Brewer?

Brewer shirts this year then plays alongside Ash
for two years. Boise State showed you can have two quality QB’s and play them both in the right way. After the coming year, Ash is a junior and Brewer a redshirt freshman in 2013. Work Brewer into the game with his own package of plays and let him grow as a contributing, if not starting QB. Keeping with the redshirt trend, Swoopes shirts in 2013, comes into 2014 as a RS frosh to Brewer’s RS soph year but with two completely complementary skill sets. The VY skill set vs. the Kellen Moore set. Let the coordinators go to town with that scenario to play with. We can only hope no injuries occur so more than likely, we will have to deal with that scenario but hopefully from a position of strength, born of our ability and willingness to continue the redshirt philosophy and utilize each player’s unique skills to his advantage.

This is why I wonder if Brewer shirts this year or not.
On the one hand, he needs a redshirt to develop. The kid will be a solid QB.
However, if he does shirt, it creates a logjam with Swoopes for at least a year. So they could always not shirt him and just 3rd string him this year. Keeps his eligibility running without having to play him and also frees up space between him and Swoopes.
Interesting indeed. I think they redshirt him anyways unless freakish injuries happen again. Swoopes gets more and more package plays until he is a flat out starter or until he beats out Brewer (if he does). Good dilemma to have.

I'd still shirt Connor.
His body frame seems to dictate a need to have a year of just pure physical development. The all star game made him seem preeminently breakable and while the spring game showed that he had developed to a good degree physically, he still looks to be 6’0" and at most 190 pounds with an above average arm and only above average mobility. In other words, he’s not going to beat out Case and likely Overstreet will have advantages over him that will allow the coaches to slot him into the 3rd string QB position as a at least a better wildcat option than Connor.
That really means that Connor would truly be wasted as a 4th string mop-up QB if he plays this year barring multiple injuries to players ahead of him. Let’s give him the best shot to become a contributor/starter, redshirt him, and if he beats out Swoopes for a year, he beats out Swoopes. If Tyrone is the man, well Connor can always consider transferring to Boise State having already trained up in the same system, but I wouldn’t bet against Connor becoming a quality starter for us even going against Tyrone heads up.
Like you said though, what a great problem to have.

IMO if there is one one year of seperation with Ash
Then you run the risk of Brewer transferring. Redshirt him, and then give him a fair chance at playing time and eventually starting.
Can’t base RS decisions on players that haven’t even signed yet.
by Horncasting on Apr 14, 2025 4:14 PM CDT up reply actions
100% agree on that
As much as it would horrify me to see TS sign anywhere but here. You just never know and as much as I see a superstar in the making in TS here at UT, the chance for PT on the QT at another UT or UO = who knows. Can’t base personnel decisions on TS until he signs the paperwork.

VY comparisons need to be outlawed
He’s nowhere near the runner Vince was, and is much, much more advanced as a passer than Vince at the same age.
Way too early, but it’s going to be tough for Brewer, SA. One year behind Ash and one year ahead of Swoopes.
by nordberg on Apr 13, 2025 9:26 PM CDT reply actions
No need to outlaw that
I like the fact that last year in one of his earliest interviews, he embraced the comparison as complimentary of his work ethic but that he was going to be the first Tyrone Swoopes, not the next VY. The kid has an intelligence to him that belies his age and his interviews show some surprising insight into his situation and a level of composure I wouldn’t expect from a kid his age with this much of a spotlight on him. He’s a homerun for the staff and one that will hopefully define the program with his own unique brand, skills, and personality.

OK
… but the first person I hear at DKR next fall say “I heard we’ve got another VY coming in!” I get to punch in the throat.

Throat punches are the worst
I like your selection haha

Let's put it this way:
I like his approach to the whole recruiting process 10,000X better than the kid from Georgia, Nkedmiche.

Agreed on both counts re: comparisons to Vince.

2 great athletes but different strengths.
VY had legs and vision, TS has better arm.
I agree with you 100%. I’m interested to see how Swoopes develops.

I agree, but
Just watch the video at 0:25 and tell me that it doesn’t remind you of a certain play…

I prefer this kind of QB.
I hope to GAWD he makes us forget all about Brewer.
by Flash1969 on Apr 15, 2025 3:27 PM CDT reply actions
Brewer is talented
His mechanics are really good with a pretty darn accurate arm. He has a good football IQ and good pocket poise. Pretty quick on his feet too. Not much more you can ask of him.
Brewer fits the mold of a very good pro-style QB. Swoopes will need a redshirt year at the least to begin fitting into that category.

Brewer reminds me of a QB we used to have - name of Colt!

minus the scrambling ability
He has Colt like passing skills, but not Colt like running ability. If he can get the latter going like Colt did, he can absolutely become a Colt clone.
by Heisman 98 on Apr 16, 2025 4:09 PM CDT up reply actions
Peripheral vision and an internal clock were Colt's attributes in scrambling.
Brewer apparantly has the vision and the clock must be developed with reps. You get knocked on your ass enough, your clock becomes fine tuned - this is what happened to Colt as well.
It remains to be seen if Brewer has the uncanny accuracy that Colt did, however.

Brewer
is a Bryan Harsin wet dream, imo. Swoopes, for the reasons John mentioned, is a must take anyway. Good to have them both.
