We really ....
Don’t need to lose another OT this year.
Oh, and McWhorter gets a check for life for this addition to his recruiting opus.

Estelle's redshirt just went out the window
I’m just shocked it wasn’t Kriegle (he must be on track to graduate early)

Don't be surprised that along with this Sam Houston
gets a future all-conference tackle fairly soon.

Not gonna happen.
He’s done with football.

Based on phone conversations
I think he might mean somebody else. If so, what a waste.

Scipio, could you speculate on whether this...
occurred b/c of grades? - or - he didn’t like the situation he was in - or - coaches kind of nudged him toward the door? And by speculate, I mean with any accuracy.
Or is this merely what’s presented to us? That he really left b/c of family issues.
I know pretty much 0 when it comes to the player carousel and whether or not the “reasons” they give are legitimate.

Evidently not grades
The Statesman reports he was second team All Conference Academic team last year.

I don't think he loved football
College football is a grind. If you don’t love the sport, it’s not much fun. If you’re playing out of a sense of obligation, it’s not good for anyone.

Kind of like poker in that regard I suppose...
except in that game it’s good for everyone but you.
Thanks!

I can attest to this
I played college ball (only 1-AA though) for a couple of years and gave up football after my sophomore season, too. Hardly saw the field and felt like there were better things I could be doing with my life.
It was the right decision at the time - I got involved with some other activities that the football time commitment would have otherwise interfered with - but even today I still miss football and kind of regret not maximizing my time in pads. Once it’s over, it’s over. There are no over 40 rec leagues for 280# OT’s who relish contact and can’t flit all over the field with flags on his belt.

Please tell me
That he’s talking about the TCU OL who recently quit the ’Frogs.

Well that anwser does not bode well for us.

Greenlea
Had a decent Spring game. This is a bummer. Greenlea and Kelly were not the worst depth to have. Kelly was probably the most serviceable potential second string tackle on the roster.
Either Hughes or Estelle will be seeing some snaps this year. My guess is Hughes. Last picture I saw, Estelle looked like he needed to add some meat… Hughes’ body already looks pretty college ready and he has been on campus longer having enrolled early.

I hope Greenlea gets back to his nastiness
Had high hopes for him. Hopefully he picks it up this season
by STLaw on Jun 2, 2025 12:14 AM CDT up reply actions
The rumor floating around
is that Greenlea will also leave the team and transfer.

i'd guess estelle
they’re both raw of course, but i think hughes needs more work.

Anyboy still think
we won’t get the attrition needed to reach 20 signees in February, 2013?
by edsp on Jun 1, 2025 8:11 PM CDT reply actions
what is it....16 free spots now?
Well, if the QB situation unfolds anything like last year…we might be at 20 by september.
I kid (I hope). We’ll get there.
Off-topic:
What does this team look like if a few more players hung around last year? Better? Or worse?
by e1 kabong on Jun 1, 2025 8:55 PM CDT up reply actions
14 spots available
And 13 commits excluding Hughes
by Horncasting on Jun 1, 2025 10:32 PM CDT up reply actions
Gerry Hamilton is saying the open spot will most definitely not go to Hughes for the time being and that the staff is targeting at least one more OL in this class.
by Big(g) Ern on Jun 2, 2025 10:50 AM CDT up reply actions
Makes sense.
Naashon accepted a greyshirt offer, so there’s no need to upgrade that until we’ve exhausted every option for offers and acceptances for this class that are as good or better than him and/or fill a specific need. Bird in the hand and all that.

Only SoldierHorn....
….. is continuing to make that claim.

Seems like we've got a couple of juniors
who either will graduate early or won’t see a fifth year. Beyond the usual 1-2 spots that appear because players get tired of being squadmen or have personal or health issues.

I remember when I saw Paden Kelly on the field for the first time...
pants sagging down to his ankles and tye dye shirt.
He looked like somebody you would buy Shrooms off of in High School.

Atrocious evals still shaking out.
As others have said, if you aren’t willing to put in the work that our new staff and especially our new S&C guy demands, you won’t stay. While I worry about our OL depth, I’m not sure either of these guyd would have stepped up and filled the void if either Hawk or Cochran go down. We’ll need Estelle to step up quickly.
I’d rather see this happening now than in August. What heartens me is that this isn’t a fucking country club anymore. Both GG and Kelley were recruited into that culture and when it changed, desire became a big factor, and they made their decision…life goes on. We’re getting down to the short rows on people who are (and aren’t) willing to pay the price and earn the privilege to wear the burnt orange. Some short term pain for some long term gain, IMO.
Now if we can just find Bruce Chambers a soft landing…….

can't imagine not being fully committed
and having to go against Moore, Jackson and Edmond’s in practice. No fun.
by mdhorn on Jun 2, 2025 9:57 PM CDT reply actions
It isn't who you are going against in practice or Bennie for that matter
as much as Stacey and the new tempo at practice.
Remember that Stacey played for Dye at Auburn and was on the team that scrimmaged for some 3 hours after a poor performance in the spring game one year. Going half just isn’t part of his DNA and he won’t allow it from his players.
I said it when he got hired and laughed at the people who made remarks about his time at UGA without doing a bit of research. Stacey and Bo Davis in the long run will be the two best hires of the bunch.
