SR, did you break this?
I mean, outside of the obvious Twitter above, but I can’t find this anywhere.
And who the hell is Erik Huhn?

No, I saw some traffic on twitter.
Apparently he looked good at the camp today and doesn’t like Bob Stoops’ overt enmity towards puppies. Think he just got a Pelini offer too.

Yeah he just recently got the Husker offer
Also claims some from BU, TAMU, TTU, Georgia and Utah. 6’2, 205 and runs a 4.53 which is excellent size and speed for a HS Junior.
Honestly can’t say I’ve heard of him but if he’s good enough for Diaz, he’s good enough for me.

he has 15 offers
nice pick up, I have him #66 in state overall, but it tickles me inside knowing how bad the Sooners wanted him.

looks like he might be able to KO a teammate
like a certain safety that used to play for us

From what I can see
He has good football speed, is a violent tackler who wraps up well most of the time, and he has great awareness. It looks like his 8 interceptions came from reading the QB and positioning himself well rather than making plays in traffic using high level ball skills. He shed his blocks well in the few plays where he was required to do so, but these were few and far between and I didn’t see a single play where he was blitzing (disclaimer: I only watched half the videos on hudl). My first reaction was that he looks like the kind of kid that Oklahoma would turn into a pretty solid OLB, but I can’t tell if that’s a good projection without watching him take on more blocks and work in coverage against TEs and RBs. He appears to have the frame for that role, so time will tell if he grows into it. With this limited viewing he reminds me of Christian Scott but with better awareness.
He had quite a few plays in which the ball carrier thought he could take the edge/put a move on Huhn, only to get creamed and instant later. There is plenty of footage of him in both safety positions, but he definitely has more highlight-worthy plays from the free safety spot.

Coach Akina gets benefit of the doubt on this one
Watched his film. Played centerfielder. Will have to actually cover at the next level with his 4.5/4.6 going against 4.4/4.3s in the slot in the Big 12, that’s the only concern.

How many safeties run sub 4.5?
And how many WR actually run a 4.3? He looks to have ample speed in spite of his whiteness.
by Hookah Horns on Jun 3, 2025 8:27 PM CDT up reply actions
4.5 is fast for a safety. Bill Bates ran a 4.8. Top safety draft picks are 4.6s. http://www.star-telegram.com/2008/04/18/590197/bill-bates-was-the-ultimate-free.html

Manny will be using at least one true safety on the field and you can
see it in his use of Vaccaro last year or the recruitment of Adrian Colbert. The idea of 4-corners might be Duane’s, but it is Diaz’ defense and you can see it in the type of players he is recruiting. As Philly said if you don’t want him send him to Ft. Worth.

but seriously
pretty nice frame and legit closing speed. Looks like a good take.

speed
I don’t think people get it. 4.5 speed is fast for a safety. Plenty of NFL corners run 4.5. In case you were wondering, Ed Reed ran a 4.57 coming into the league. That was at his peak. This kid is 4.53 as a junior in high school

Didn't Aaron Williams run a 4.54 at the Combine
or something right around there? If that 40 time is accurate, that’s plenty of legitimate speed!

Jesus Christ People:
Firstly - All reported 40 times are horseshit, and you’re better off thinking of them as “Fake 40 times.” The only reliable times you will ever get are from the NFL combine.
Second - While a 40 time can give some snapshot of athletic ability, it really doesn’t mean shit if the guy sucks at things like tackling, covering, etc. Blake Gideon ran a 4.58 at the pro day, and he was miserable at all of those things.
So for fuck’s sake, let’s not get our collective panties in twist over some fictional 40 time from a high school jr.

I bet he’s really good. This staff probaby doesn’t take projects that “seem like good kids and could be alright one day.” Ah, Chris Hall, et. al.

Frogs wanted him in Purple
If they offer a kid, then you know he can play somewhere on the field. You guys got a good one, congrats.

Akina/Manny,
Patterson, Pelini and Stoops. I like the kid’s chances.

Apparently, OU wanted him for SLB/Roy-back position. Speed would be good for covering TE’s. Awareness and power for filling gaps. Fits meme of UT winning on Texas kids that OU wants.

the boy
loves contact. Has to learn to wrap up, but he definitely brings the wood. Appears he has a nice break on the ball, but hard to see it consistently. Need larger camera angle to get a real idea. As for the speed question. 4.5 is definitely fast enough for a S. Wasnt he camping at UT this weekend? I am guessing if 4.5 wasnt legit coaches would not have offered. The other interesting thing is at 6’2" I can see him easily at 220 without losing speed. This puts him in the Vaccarro versatility. Kid can play S or LB. Both are 6ft+ guys with 4.5 speed. How how Vaccarro is a God on these boards, but the new kid is too slow.
