Sporting Sunday Open Thread
The Texas men's Golf team is squaring off against 'Bama for the National Championship today, currently underway and we're leading in three out of four matches early on with one left to start.
Live scoring updates
Live video feed starts at 2:30 p.m.

Today's football camp is also underway and some impressive numbers have been posted already (hand-timed).
Antwaun Davis ripped off a 40 in the 4.3 range and Ricky Seals-Jones posted a 4.4. Freaky fast at that size.
He's our DGB, imo.
***
Tiger is in the hunt at the Memorial, currently tied with walking douchebag Rory Sabbatini and sits two shots behind leader Spencer Levin.
Ricker Fowler is channeling his inner srr50, already +4 on the day through six holes.
***
US men's soccer team takes on Canada tonight at 6, looking to rebound off a 4-1 drubbing by Brazil. Perhaps they were a little overconfident after spanking Scotland 5-1?
f all things Canadian.
***
Celtics / Heat game 4 tips at 7:30, with Miami holding a 2-1 advantage. Can the Celtics even it up? I heard a sportscaster call Boston's PG play Rondoculous and we now have a strong candidate for the worst sports meme of all time.
This is your open thread for any and all contests.
Cheers!

Calgary Stampede
is supposed to be cool.
No chance of one of the Bama kids dislocating Jordan Spieth’s shoulder, right?

freaking unvision deportes?
I don’t have nbc sports, but I can usually get the USMNT games en espanol. it appears that’s not the case on standard TW cable in Austin. and a quick glance seems to reveal that only the MEX v. BRA tilt is being streamed at univision.com.
on the topic of MEX/BRA, I haven’t really minded El Tri lately, but am kind of hoping to see Brazil hand out some beat down in Jerryworld.
wow. Dos Santos with a terriic goal from an unlikely angle. 1-0, Mexico.

The Mexicans are going through the Brazil defense like it’s a border fence, imo.

Ricky Fowler's problem is that weird shade of orange he insists on wearing.
Spencer Levine has never won on the tour, and he looks like he is beginning to feel the pressure.
Tiger has played the front 9 in 10 under par this week, but is +4 on the back side.

MEX-BRA
I’ve seen public access broadcasts with better production values than this. Less cleavage, though.

Bams's Bobby Wyatt
Just went eagle-birdie on 17 & 18 to win his match against Toni Hakula. He chipped in on 18 for the win.
It looks like it will come down to a match between Cory Whitsett of Alabama and Dylan Frittelli who are all square through 15 holes.
Whitsett is from Houston.

national championship coming down to Dylan Fritelli's match
18th hole. Crazy.
Fritelli stripes one down the fairway, Whitsett in the first cut. it will be tough to spin it out of that lie.

Whitsett long and left over the green
Fritelli pin high about 25 ft away.
If Whitsett cans this chip then Nick Saban truly is the Devil.

BTW, Tiger Woods hit an impossible chip in on 16
and began to party like it was 1999.

Texas National Champs!
Dylan Fritelli birdies the hole — it is the 3rd National Championship for Texas, only 40 years between the 2nd and 3rd.

CLUTCH
What an awesome finish. Light the tower orange.
Feel bad for Whitsett. He may never get over the whiffed chip.

If you have ever hit out of kikuyu grass you know exactly how Whitsett feels.
That stuff can make your club go completely underneath the ball without touching it. Or it will grab your club face and you will stub it, or you will hurry and clip it sending it screaming off the green.
Not fun, not fun at all.

Geez!
The last golf titles were Kite-Crenshaw, etc., right? I was in school was those guys. One of my HS classmates was on one of those teams.
Hook ’em. (But not off the tee box)

Sweet...Congratulations Horns
Whitsett went to my high school—Houston Memorial. He is a terrific player and will recover. It is a lot easier to whiff a green-side chip out of thick grass than you think.
Clutch birdie by Fritelli rendering the whiff almost moot.
