Aggies being aggies
The old expression was: "As dumb as a bag of hammers." Well, now it needs to be changed to "As dumb as a box of hammers. " As in Richard Box, an A&M; regent and, of course, a former Aggie. Here is a quote from Pat Forde's story about his trip with Mike Slive this last weekend.
The process was acrimonious, controversial and complicated. But by Friday night, on the eve of the first SEC game, there was jubilation at the feeling of liberation from Texas' massive shadow.
"I haven't seen it like this around here since Bear [Bryant] was here," said regent Richard Box, a 1961 undergraduate.
Yet even free and clear from the perceived oppression of the Longhorns, post-dinner conversation among the regents inevitably turned to Texas. The ancient rivalry has been halted, but those in College Station envision a day when it is renewed – and the balance of power is different, thanks to SEC membership.
"When we do play again," Box said, "we'll be the controlling brand."
Oh, yeah. In Aggie dreams. As I said, as dumb as a box of hammers.
Be excellent to each other.

An inconvenient truth
This is something fans of that school that used to be in Texas do NOT understand. The SEC, at its’ very best over the last several years, is a very top heavy conference. ‘Bama under Saban and LSU under the mad hatter dominate the conference. Florida used to be a powerhouse under Meyer…not so much anymore. South Carolina’s good, but I doubt anybody would describe them as great, and the same can be said of arkeysaw and Georgia. The SEC’s run of football championships has been impressive, but the Big XII, the PAC 12, and even the B1G are positioning themselves to challenge the SEC’s top two nicely over the next few years. The SEC’s always gonna have to be dealt with, but the championship run will end, perhaps even this year.
The agricultural college isn’t going to gain any competitive advantage over UT, or anyone else, by being a member of the confederacy. If officials over there had one lick of sense, they would have stayed in the Big XII. That would be expecting too much out of the hierarchy in Baghdad on the Brazos.
Note to Box and anyone else connected to that school…don’t hold your breath waiting to renew things with UT. Deloss Dodds told you two years ago that you are free to make the move to the SEC, but don’t expect to keep playing UT if you do. UT doesn’t have any room on the schedule to play agricultural in any sports for the foreseeable future.
Enjoy your newfound rivalries with the likes of arkeysaw and ’Ole Miss State. You really are a natural fit in the SEC.

Wow!
I know being delusional is a permanent state for Aggie but “we’ll be the controlling brand”. You have got to be kidding. I don’t think play soldiers and milkmen look a likes plays to a large portion of the population. Plus, brand recognition requires winning and they could not consistently compete against the Big XII.

Based upon how the NCAA's new leadership dealt with Penn State,
I think Aggie’s move to the SEC may have been premature. Especially if the NCAA decides to mount substantive investigations into the recruiting practices of ’Bama, LSU, etc.
On the other hand, that may be exactly how Aggie plans to be competitive: wait for sanctions to hit every school in the SEC so they win 5 years of championships by default. As we’ve seen with A&M;’s administration retroactively claiming national titles, they obviously don’t care if they don’t earn it on the field.

I just had to post this link
The idea that the Aggies would ever be “the controlling brand” in Texas was just too good to pass up.
So, move from being a mediocre Big XII team to being a mediocre SEC team? Yeah, that’s going to make all the difference.

The only problem I have with all this
Is that the national media will use the mediocrity of A&M; and Missouri to “prove” the superiority of the SEC.
Of course, the fact that both were mediocre teams in the Big XII will be ignored.

If that's the cross that we must bear, so be it.
It’s worth it be rid of the dumb fucks.
