Freshman OL Camhron Hughes Tears ACL
That's how Camhron Hughes just tore his ACL. He'll undergo surgery and redshirt his freshman season.
Hughes was a likely redshirt candidate but after losing Paden Kelly last week, he might have seen some action this fall.
Kennedy Estelle better come to play.
Be excellent to each other.

True shame and echo the get well wishes.
Camhron is going to surprise some people before he leaves Austin.

At least
he’ll be on the Wylie/Searels diet and not whatever he would have consumed in high school.
by Nickel Rover on Jun 4, 2025 5:30 PM CDT reply actions
he can also work on upper body strength
Definitely has some re-proportioning to do.

as opposed to using his redshirt season and having only four left
or does it still leave him with only 4 even if it’s a medical?
by boorad on Jun 4, 2025 6:31 PM CDT up reply actions
Yeah
It leaves him with 4 no matter what the reason for missing the season.

He needed to redshirt if we could at all get away with it, anyway, right?
Or am I confusing him with Estelle. I remember reading that one of them is really raw.
by BurntOrangeJuice on Jun 4, 2025 6:30 PM CDT reply actions
They both need to redshirt
I think Hughes is the rawer of the two.

But doesn't this injury basically waste what could have been a beneficial redshirt year?
As Vasherized said, he can work on getting stronger in the upper body, isn’t that offset by all of the strength he’ll lose in his lower body. And he won’t be able to work on technique, footwork, etc. until probably spring, correct?

So, without glancing at a roster
who are our back-up OTs without Kelly and Hughes? Estelle, and… um… we don’t still play Luke Poehlman at tackle do we?
Kelly wasn’t a disaster at OT, and was a perfectly fine guy to have as your third or fourth guy at the position. Don’t guess he’d consider changing his mind.
by nordberg on Jun 4, 2025 6:50 PM CDT reply actions
Hopkins is probably our #1 back-up at tackle
Then you move around the interior OL a little. Poehlmann and Estelle have a chance to state their respective cases in Fall camp.

Supposedly
He’s gone from the team, just not announced yet.

Depth Chart
Could you (or someone) post what our OL depth chart might look like, with these changes?
by lukel2255 on Jun 5, 2025 2:10 PM CDT up reply actions
Best guess
Starters:
LT - Hawkins
LG - Hopkins
OC - Espinosa
LG - Walters
RT - Cochran
Backups
T - Poehlman, Estelle, Doyle, Hopkins (probably moves to starter if there is an injury)
C - Porter, Riser
G - Flowers, Ashcraft, Porter, Hutchins
If Greenlea is still with the team, he’s probably 3rd string G.

Maulerson is too light in the ass-erson
right now
by Scipio Tex on Jun 4, 2025 6:57 PM CDT up reply actions
Probably
But can he gain 40 pounds by next year?
by Vasherized on Jun 4, 2025 7:09 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
I did that once in college
And I didn’t have Jeff Madden personally hand-feeding me chocolate covered bacon and crisco.
It. Is. Doable.

Hopkins and Estelle As Backups
With Poehlman as the God help us option. It’ll probably help his use in the nice little trick play to the TE that we scored on against KSU and Baylor.
Flowers also better come to play since our best puller will be spending more time protecting the QB’s blindside.

Poehlman is clearing out a place on his mantle as we speak
For the 2012 Gaskamp award.

Good call.
He would be an unbelievable help.

Wylie must be slacking...
He should have been passed out from exhaustion with IV’s stuck in his veins after the Bennie Wylie workouts!!!!
Not a great OT situation for this year, but still better than last year and it might benefit us 3 or 4 years down the line. Get well soon big guy!
