Basketball Recruiting: Signing Day Open Thread
The first day of the Late Signing Period starts today.
- Five-star center Cameron Ridley (Fort Bend Bush) is expected to sign with Texas at 12:15 p.m.
- Recent commitment DeMarcus Holland (Garland Naaman Forest) is also expected to sign today.
- Texas is also pursuing Devonta Pollard (Kemper County, MS), who will not make a decision until later this April. The Late Signing Period runs through May 16.
Huge six month sigh of relief update:
It's official. Cameron Ridley is a Longhorn.es.pn/IQDwph

Update: Holland in as well.
Naaman Forest High School guard DeMarcus Holland has officially signed with Texas. Full coverage of signing day on Longhorn Extra at 10pm CT
— Longhorn Network (@LonghornNetwork) April 11, 2025
Update: Pollard talked to Bama Online ($) after his official visit to Tuscaloosa.
“It’s still those final four. I would say Alabama still stands where they stood before the visit. I wouldn’t say any school is standing out more than the others. All those are equal right now.”

Ridley just faxed his letter of intent
Showed up to the press conference decked out in burnt orange.
Does Gerry Hamilton still think he’s going somewhere else?

Frontcourt should be fun
With Ridley and Ibeh, things are looking up.

Fantastic
Should be a fun team to watch next season.

Gerry never claimed he was going somewhere else
He said he’d believe that Ridley would play for Texas when the ink dried on the LOI. Certainly a reasonable position to take given the peculiarities of this recruitment.

Of all the recent one and done's
Ridley may be joining the most complete supporting cast we’ve had in a long time.
The cupboard was pretty much bare when Durant arrived . . .and the roster had a few gaps when Canadians showed up.
Maybe I’m caving in to the hype, but I like the McClellan-Lewis-Kabongo backcourt and the Holmes-Bond front court combined with what the new guys should bring. Great day for Horns hoops.

Only problem...
…is that it’s a supporting cast of all underclassmen. As I keep saying, the 2013 and 2014 classes are really important.

Redshirts?
Let’s say no Pollard and no Clarkson… Do we redshirt any of the incoming class? Not sure on Ibeh and Lammert - if it makes any sense if you think they are going to stick around for at least 3 years - and I admittedly no idea how frequently you redshirt b-ball players anyhow.

Ibeh and Lammert are both candidates
Coaches should figure it out pretty quickly in team drills and scrimmage situations.

Lammert most likely
Looks like a 4 only, and he’s behind Holmes, Bond, and Ibeh right now.

With all Pollard has said and hasn't said, I am surprised that no one is giving Texas a chance
I have yet to see any so called expert predict the Longhorns. Not that it matters much, just find that odd since Pollard has stated that every one is really close in his mind.

Who isn't giving Texas a chance?
Some people that would know feel like we have a great chance.
by Vasherized on Apr 11, 2025 1:19 PM CDT reply actions
On ESPN insider and Scout the other sites I have looked at...
About a total of 8 predictions with not 1 going for Texas. I think we have a chance, I am just surprised from predictions we are not gettng at least some love.

Pollard vs Clarkson
Pure hypothetical: do we want one year from an unpolished forward with crazy athletic ability and an upside that’s probably realized four years from now or two years from an All-Conference level mid-major transfer with a fairly polished game?

I vote B, too
Maybe he can help Barnes with the end-game. (I jest, kinda.)
Nothing is more real than nothing.

Does Clarkson bring to the squad
anything that isn’t already found on the roster. Seems like Texas has plenty of wing players and fewer front court talent.

Clarkson
Looks like a poor man’s J’Covan. Very natural scorer, and the only other person on the team that can do that right now is McClellan. Just because Texas has plenty of wing players doesn’t mean Texas has plenty of wing players like Clarkson.

There might have been multiple issues
with Ridley signing but the one I heard of has nothing to do with academics. I think his AAU coach mentioned this? But I think that was a smokescreen.
by Monahorns on Apr 11, 2025 4:24 PM CDT up reply actions
Haven’t heard any suggestions that he will face problems academically.
by Big(g) Ern on Apr 12, 2025 11:14 AM CDT up reply actions
Rumors are
The “academics” angle was used by his handlers. With Courtney as his head coach and Bush in a respectable ISD, I don’t foresee any problems.
