Connor Wood Is A Colorado Buffalo

Best of luck to Connor Wood in Boulder.

CU will lose senior starter Tyler Hansen after this season and Wood can compete for a starting gig in 2012.

Final thought for Connor: Take up hackeysack.

Questions for the audience:

1. Did the right guy transfer?
2. Will the Longhorns ever face Wood in a game? Holiday Bowl. Pac 14. Dodgeball tournament?
3. How often do accuracy issues get fixed in a QB?

Do we really know he actually had an accuracy problem? We never saw him throw more than 3 or 4 balls downfield.

Did the right guy transfer?

Trick question.

With Ash on campus and Brewer committed, whoever chose to transfer would have been the right guy.

by srr50 on Aug 31, 2025 7:19 PM CDT reply actions

1. No. Case should be ACU bound.
2. I pray we do. In the Pac#
3. I think he could turn out to be a good player and question criticisms of his accuracy considering GG is ahead of the depth chart. He had to have literally been over throwing 5 yard slants by 20 ft to be worse than what we saw from GG. His pops didn’t have enough influence on our coaching staff to help him compete with 2 of our other options, one who has far less athletic ability than Wood, but a legendary big brotha and a persistent big papi.

Good luck to him, hope he gets a real shot at CU and they find a way to field a real team around him.

Hey Man -

Reported accuracy problems, at least.

by Scipio Tex on Aug 31, 2025 7:20 PM CDT reply actions

Houston Baptist to CU Boulder. It’s the logical progression.

by stuckinmn on Aug 31, 2025 7:22 PM CDT reply actions

Will he start against SC?

by Fong the Merciless on Aug 31, 2025 7:32 PM CDT reply actions

Actually, with a stopover in Austin, that is a pretty logical progression.

Look for him to finish up his career at Evergreen State College.

by CrazyJoeDavola on Aug 31, 2025 7:35 PM CDT reply actions

best to him. i hope he does well and sees this as a great step toward what he wants to do.

me, i question answers better than i answer questions.

Connor may be the first Buff to “Uncle Rico” if his accuracy issues are true.

by Bobby_Batronic on Aug 31, 2025 7:48 PM CDT reply actions

Could he really be much worse than Hawkins Jr?

His Southern Baptist root is about to be awakened by a California flunkie hottie and/or a hippie.

Good move for him. Open depth chart in 2012.

by ColoradoAg on Aug 31, 2025 7:57 PM CDT reply actions

GJ Kinne had accuracy problems when he got here. You even wrote about how bad he was in one of our spring games (see if I can dig up the link later). Once he got to Tulsa he tore shit up.

DeMarco Cobbs breaks forearm, out for 8-10 weeks. Damn.

by Kasey on Aug 31, 2025 8:07 PM CDT reply actions

"His Southern Baptist root"

That’s dirty talk.

by Dionysus on Aug 31, 2025 8:12 PM CDT reply actions

From a purely physical view point he has more upside than McCoy. Bigger, stronger arm etc. But other than that who knows? We heard and saw so little it is hard to have much opinion on him. The inaccuracy issues were widely reported but even if they were true who knows why he was inaccurate? Not enough reps? Needs more maturity? Mechanics?
I do appreciate that he came here and tried his best and I hope he does well at CU and in life.

Ultimate frisbee, IMO

Well that sucks…sounds like he could have helped in coverage and was looking impressive blitzing off the edge.

I don’t think Wood transfers if he thought he could compete with Ash.

by dick on Aug 31, 2025 8:48 PM CDT reply actions

I am actually more sad about Wood leaving Texas than ATM the B12; at least he appreciated the good that is UT…

by MexLebHorn on Aug 31, 2025 8:54 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah, you gotta wonder how on earth Wood could possibly be worse than GG

by ransomstoddard on Aug 31, 2025 9:04 PM CDT reply actions

That’s a great fit for Connor. He gets to play in the Pac12 and live/play in a beautiful city. It’s great hearing that a qb could transfer from UT to another quality program.

by kemit on Aug 31, 2025 9:26 PM CDT reply actions

If I’d never read a JS practice report here over the last year, I might be surprised.

He should start hucking frisbees instead of picking up hackeysack. Learning to work in a boomerang effect on his tosses might cure what ails him.

by triplehorn on Aug 31, 2025 9:33 PM CDT reply actions

I wish Connor the best of luck. From a program that has a clean slate, the only way Connor can go is up. I think he’ll do well in Boulder. Great city, great state. Was my 2nd choice of colleges to attend out of high school.

by Kasey on Aug 31, 2025 10:17 PM CDT reply actions

I’m with Dirty Leg. He could tear it up playing Ultimate, and Colorado Mamabird is a legitimate national championship contending team most years.

by Andrew Wiggin on Aug 31, 2025 10:19 PM CDT reply actions

I’m totally mixed on Wood. On the one hand, if he couldn’t beat out Case . . . and he couldn’t dominate against Houston Second Baptist’s competition in HS, then losing him isn’t a big deal.

On the other hand, he was the top-rated QB in the state two years ago. Oklahoma was after him hard.

Do accuracy problems go away? Given that Major and Harsin were working with him, I doubt they go away. And this does open up a scholarship.

by edsp on Aug 31, 2025 10:22 PM CDT reply actions

GG has accuracy problems. Mack smoke screen has us all confused.

Couldn’t disagree more. Nothing compared to Texas-type talent, but you seem to be forgetting the ENTIRE midwest and Tornado Alley.

Young Williams:

You are so fucking wrong, .Not only are there plenty of hot Colorado women, they are in damn good shape.

My advice to all young men thinking of getting married—find a woman who can out ski you (translation to all you Texans pretty much any woman from Colorado). That way you can ski together all you want and you don’t have to worry about your wife turning into Oprah.

Take my advice, you’ll thank me for it.

PS Buying skis for Christmas gifts beats the shit out of trying to figure out which dress your wife will return.

Having been to Colorado at least 25 times in addition to having lived there for a stint after college, I can tell you that the only good looking woken in Colorado are tourists.

That was a high quality funny right there. I literally laughed out loud. Should get more love, but I doubt most of the BC commentariat gets the joke.

by RedmondLonghorn on Sep 1, 2025 8:48 AM CDT reply actions

Honest question – was his four star rating coming out of high school inflated? Or is the QB position so deep in Austin that four star QBs get buried on the depth chart?

by Ag_in_TX on Sep 1, 2025 9:21 AM CDT reply actions

Good luck to Connor, I think he will do well at CU. A change of scenery might be just what he needs to get things going.

by CHart on Sep 1, 2025 9:26 AM CDT reply actions

@Ag_in_TX I dont think his 4 star was inflated. He was a 4 year starter at second baptist, prep All-American, and 3 time all-state. Also started the Army All-American Game. Texas is just deep at QB talent. Gilbert was gatorade HS player of the year and Ash has looked incredible so far.

This won’t be the last time we hear of Connor Wood, he will be starting for CU in 2012 IMO.

by CHart on Sep 1, 2025 9:31 AM CDT reply actions

Since he redshirted last year, he doesn’t lose a year of eligibilty for sitting out this year does he? not familiar with how that works.

Scip:

My respectful responses are as follows:

1. Did the right guy transfer?
No. Josh Heupel has a far better eye for QB’s than anyone on UT’s current staff now or previously. His only “miss” to date is a QB currently getting Heisman hype for running an offensive machine. And Heupel thought Connor Wood was a definite take. Meanwhile, Case McCoy was a guy widely panned as “guy who got into UT on big brother’s coattails”.
2. Will the Longhorns ever face Wood in a game? Holiday Bowl. Pac 14. Dodgeball tournament?
I think so, but there’s a lot of moving parts (realignment, UT’s development, etc)
3. How often do accuracy issues get fixed in a QB?
Depends on the cause. Some QB’s issues are a result of poor mechanics or just being flat out raw. They got away with shit in high school that won’t fly at the high D1 level, or they started playing QB late. OU’s Blake Bell is a perfect example of this. He started playing QB his junior year of high school, so he’s just now getting to the point technically where he could be a viable D1 QB.

by NateHeupel on Sep 1, 2025 9:34 AM CDT reply actions

1. Did the right guy transfer

- Most people are going to say “no” since Wood is thought to have a higher upside than McCoy – but you can look at it another way…Wood might have a better future as a No. 1 QB than McCoy but Texas (apparently) has its future No.1 QB situation handled with Gilbert (maybe) – Ash (maybe) – Brewer (maybe). McCoy, whose strength is apparently knowing the schemes and properly executing them, just not being able to physically make the throws, which can’t be fixed with further reps) seems more ideally suited to be a guy who can carry a clipboard and then come in and run the offense in pinch rather than Wood, who apparently is more of a long-term project.

This of course, is all premised on the dubious assumption of him being content to do so rather than ready to bolt to North Texas or Rice or whatever and be a starter.

by Arriviste on Sep 1, 2025 9:44 AM CDT reply actions

From the clips I saw on LHN last night, as athletes Connor and Ash are light years ahead of the others. GG’s footwork is atrocious when he has to move to the edge or outside the pocket. His motion breaks down when he trys to place a softer throw over coverage. Case is a case study in Texas recruiting conflicts, not sure he could compete head to head at ACU, certainly not at Harden Simmons. Ash and Wood’s play resembled the handpicked scenes from the most recent Elite11 competition. The Connor Brewer and David Ash competition will take the program in the right direction.

Lots of product placement material in the broadcast last night, that being of Case and Jaxon. Overwhelming the number of times the camera panned across the team to focus in on those two.

Mike Davis, Darius White, Miles O. and Harris had some outstanding clips. Not quite the level of Stills and Broyles shown on the OU fall practice show, but encouraging.

Got to agree with Nate on #3. One has to break down the fundamentals that make up the accuracy problems…..maybe his contacts were a prescription too weak as well.
