Chris Petersen Gets a Raise
Chris Petersen will be staying at Boise St.
for at least a year after leading the Boise St. Broncos to another fine season, going 12-1 and getting thoroughly shafted by the Sugar Bowl on the logic that Virginia Tech would travel well.
This would fit the scuttlebutt that Petersen is staying put for the time being, potentially waiting on the Longhorn head coaching job should Mack Brown put together a BCS team in the next year or so and then ride off into the Hill Country sunset.
I'm working on my year end review right now, as it turns out. $325,000 raise would be nice. I was good. I went to some conferences. Did some training. I can haz big raise?

I saw he gets a year added onto it for every 8+ win season. That’s basically a lifetime contract in the Big East.

I read a few of the articles, but never saw anything about a buy-out clause.
Any word on that?

Looks like the deposit check from Red McCombs for his services in 2013 cleared.

Buy out clause?
Yeah because Boise is in a great position to demand concessions from Petersen.
AD: So uh Chris, err I mean Mr. Petersen, we added this little clause to your contract right hear under all the zeros that states "In the event you leave Boise prior to the conclusion of the contract term you will be required to pay Boise 2 million . . .
Conversation interrupted by jay z “On to the next one” ring tone.
Pertersen: Excuse me I think that’s UCLA on the line, I’ve got ATM and Penn State on hold, and a conference call with Deloss Dodds at 3. What were you saying about paying Boise money? Did I hear that right?"

The Harsin Clause would have to be wash or aid with with Peterson buyout clause. If Peterson leaves to take the Texas HC position then pencil in Harsin to get an offer to be HC at Boise. Perhaps, we could even throw in TE coach too.

“Perhaps, we could even throw in TE coach too”
I’m digging your logic, ser.

Yep
Texas HC - Peterson
Boise HC - Harsin
Texas OC running the Boise system (Applewhite)
Texas AD - Mack brown

Petersen has done an outstanding job at BSU and deserves every penny of his raise. Amazing how badly the Broncos got screwed (by the Sugar Bowl) during bowl selections. Assuming he can recruit Texas 90%-95% as well as Mack does, Chris would seem to be a worthy successor to Mack in the coming years.

AustinEx - I like that lineup, but my intuition is that Mack goes over to LHN, or just off into the sunset (though I think that’s unlikely) rather than the AD spot. Admit that I don’t know enough about the field though to say who would follow Dodds.

Honestly, with Mack’s strong streak of loyalty, I’m not sure I’d want him as AD. Assuming Petersen didn’t work out, how many extra years would Mack give him before realizing what was apparent to everyone else for years?
I LOVE Mack, but I’m getting used to the idea that you need a totally pragmatic bastard as AD at a school like Texas.

As long as Plonsky doesn’t ascend to the throne and men’s athletics begin to circle the bowl like our ladies’ programs, I’m good with a heretofore unidentified person following Dodds and Mack heading to LHN.

AD is a 20 year hire. Why would we put a 60 year old guy who is worn out from the last 15 years into the position of AD at Texas? Mack isn’t the guy.

Mack loves Austin and has a really nice setup…he will be staying in Austin. As the AD at Texas??? Unlikely by my thinking. I’m with WanderingHorn…I think Mack goes to LHN.

Or Mack can take over for Corso on College Gameday.

Mack will not be the AD.
Mack will always have a place in the Texas program or at ESPN, but present-day AD’s need to be cutthroat businessmen who excel at long term strategery (that’s right, I said strategry). That’s not Mack’s strong suit.

Mack has already set up his “afterlife” from Belmont.
charity work on his & Sally’s charity they had ground breaking ceremonies for last summer.
AD needs to be a poker face gunslinger with a I bleed orange attitude.
Being an AD is as much about being a politician (fund raising) as it is a deal making administrator.
Jesus said his sources named Petersen as the no. 1 target so ill go with Jesus on that point.
All of the other positions will sort themselves out.
A key for Petersen to successfully continue working on Texas for recruits is to keep Applewhite at the 440 acres ad OC- Asst. Head Coach…..
2013 Mack wins NBC
Petersen hired as head Coach
