Mike Gundy Gets A Pay Raise
Mike Gundy is about to become the third highest-paid coach in the Big 12.
Gundy has agreed to an eight-year extention that will boost his yearly take to just over $3.7 million. The new contract runs through 2019.
Right now only four D-1 football coaches make $4 million or more: Mack Brown ($5.19 million), Nick Saban ($4.833 million), Bob Stoops ($4.075 million) and Urban Meyer (new $4 million pact with Ohio State).
Gundy has been head coach at Oklahoma State since 2005, and he is 59-30 over that time. The last two years at his alma mater have been outstanding -- 23-3, including a 12-1 record this year with a Big 12 Championship and a Fiesta Bowl win.
Oklahoma State's history of success, or lack thereof, can be seen in that Gundy is already the 2nd winningest coach all-time, just three wins behind Pat Jones.
The Big 12 Championship is the first outright conference championship since the Cowboys won the Missouri Valley -- in 1948.

A grown man got to get paaiid!
Seriously, happy for him and what OSU was able to do this year. During the OU game they said OSU including this year has beaten OU 5 times since WWII.

Well deserved by Gundy, he’s certainly worked patiently to build OSU’s program (with help from T. Boone’s money, of course).
I’ll be most interested to see how the Cowboys do the next 2 years without Blackmon and Weeden, to see how Gundy goes about rebuilding/reloading.

I’m crossing my fingers that Williams and Addison don’t leave A&M for Okie State. It would be a smarter move for them.

He replaced Zac Robinson and Dez Bryant with them, and he also replaced Dana Holgorsen as well, so I imagine he has a plan.

It’s incredible to me that Mack Brown is the highest paid coach in college football. Sometimes pay doesn’t equate with being the best.

There is no substitute.

The Golf Prick deserves every bit of that salary, unlike the guy who is number 1 on that list.

Monahorns, I know that the spokes-weasels said OSU had only beaten Satan’s spawn 5 times since WWII, but actually they have won 8 times with one tie in that period. Still not good, but 60% better than they would have you believe.
I think they came up with that stat by forgetting the John Blake and Howard Schnellinbeger coaching years.
As a Cowboy fan I think Gundy is worth it because he has done it with a clean program….and T. Boone’s money.

If Mack made 20K a year I wonder if anonymous internet posters would shut the hell up?
I’m not saying he’s worth what he makes, just saying the comments are tiresome.

I propose that we have a Shitbird List. To qualify for the list, a poster must express his or her displeasure ad nauseum about Mack’s salary, his longevity as our head coach, and our quarterbacks.
I also propose a limit on the number of threads they are allowed to derail.
Thoughts?

Well deserved, congrats Gundy he deserves it. Mack at number one is just plain wrong. He’s worth half that.

Congrats to java for attempting to derail thread.

Gundy just bought a whole new set of visors…he deserves every single one of them!

I post very seldom and just said I was surprised to see Mac Brown was the highest paid coach in the country and stated that being the highest paid doesn’t always equate to being the best. The pay was part of the article so how is that trying to derail the thread? Just a question from one anonymous poster to another anonymous poster.
It would give me great pride to be on javas shitbird list.

stilltrying, when I wrote that I didn’t have you in mind. Please, don’t take offense.
I do think Gundy has done a good job. Good for him.
Hook ’em!

Just in terms of marginal cost versus marginal benefit, I’m guessing there’s an argument to be made for Mack.
He is the head coach for the highest grossing athletic program in the land, you know.
