SB Nation Conference Re-draft: Round 3 Complete
Here are the third round selections.
BC Interruption: UCLA
Black Heart Gold Pants: Virginia Tech
Team Speed Kills: Nebraska
Big East Coast Bias: wait for it ... LOUISVILLE
House of Sparky: Oregon
Red Cup Rebellion: North Carolina
We officially sanction the last two selections. The NCAA does too!
As for Louisville, like that backup QB in your fantasy draft, the same pick would have been available in round 7.
It's hard not to like the way things are shaping up for our conference, anchored by Texas, Georgia, and UCLA. All three are large state universities that generate high revenues, anchor big media markets, cover all three time zones, and serve up delicious booty. With UCLA you're also getting 11 NCAA titles in basketball and more team titles than any other school (107).
Our primary competition appears to be Team Speed Kills, who drafted Alabama, Oklahoma, and Nebraska with it's first three picks. All football powerhouses but the conference falls well short in academics, hot tang factor, media markets, and secondary sports like basketball.
Here is the updated Big Board through three rounds. We'll post round four results and conference name selections next.

You could turn the rest of the draft over to Jerry Jones and we would still be in great shape.

V-Tech is a bit of an overreach as well amirite?
by withaplum on Jun 22, 2025 2:32 PM CDT reply actions
Definitely a reach. As were FSU and Louisville. It only makes our plans to dominate this fictional new league all the easier.
Jerry Jones could fuck up anything. I wouldn’t feel comfortable handing the reins over to Jerrah until the tenth round, maybe eleventh.

So, am I crazy or could Cal (academics, minor sports, bay area media market) and Rutgers (pretty much pure media market… but what a market!) be good pickups soonish?
by withaplum on Jun 22, 2025 2:39 PM CDT reply actions
don’t think fsu was a reach. pure upside pick based on money/location/beastly recruiting from the new staff.
va tech, notre dame, and louisville are hilarious over-reaches.

Definate anti-Texas A&M bias here. Nobody dominates the non-revenue sports like the Ags. If we are not a top-10 school I dont know who is.

Best available: Miami, Tennessee, A&M, Stanford, Arky, Wisconsin? I’m boycotting Auburn. Too bad Washington and CU are down.

You have become an amusing troll and I offer you a slow clap as reward.

“Definate anti-Texas A&M bias here.”
You mean by all the participating blogs nationwide? DefinAtely. Always has been and always will be. I wonder why?

Miami is a tough call, right? They’re simultaneously one of the worst and best programs in the country. Stanford - weirdly - is similar, but for different reasons.
I agree with you on Tennessee and Wisky.
Not seeing Arkansas until later.
by Scipio Tex on Jun 22, 2025 3:31 PM CDT reply actions
Miami gives you the tail factor, and Florida recruiting means they’ll be back soon. Academics suck. Stanford gives you all other sports, occasionally football, and best academics of any FBS school. And besides the schools listed, the pickins are already pretty slim - big knocks on everyone else.

Scip, is that the Citizen Kane or Joker slow clap? The fact that they could overlook our equestrian dominance is appalling.

so does red cup rebellion go first in every round now??? i thought this was a snake format draft. Should not BC have gonelast in 2nd and First to pick in 3rd round. strange draft orders.

It is a snake draft. Vasherized just posted it in a deceiving manner.
I thought RCR did a great job getting N. Carolina with the last pick of the 3rd.

Dan Buckner sure didn’t.

Kilgore, don’t forget the Kremlin’s slow clap at the end of Rock IV. EPIC. My personal fav? Cool Runnings ending. Hoosiers a close 2nd.

The greatest slow clap ever is at the end of Officer and A Gentleman. When Richard Gere carries Debra Winger out of the factory.
Debra’s blond bimbo friend with the nice jugs slow claps while saying bitterly, “Way to go Paula. Way to go.”

Our interns aren’t used to coding HTML by hand. Give them time to get up to speed, just like we’re doing with Big East Coast Bias.

The snake is properly coiled again. Props to Van (for the) Nguyen, our engineering intern.

Those were, more accurately, a ‘bodacious set of ta-tas’.
We fixin’ to tear this competition wide open…

Value picks for the next round: Arizona, Arizona State, Stanford, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Auburn, Aggy.
Other justifiable picks in round 4: UConn (men’s and women’s BBall), Colorado, Oklahoma State (wrestling), Cal (academics), Washington, Iowa, Illinois, Miami.
Head-scratchers in round 4: Louisville.
Oh. Wait.

What about Virginia? High academics. High quality tail. Some success in big sports with high success in minor sports. Seems like a mini sleeping giant for a conference.

Good call on UVa. Much better pick than Va Tech.

Keeping with the hot tang/large media market, ASU is the no brainer pick next. Something has always bothered me about ASU athletics, though. I think it is the hideous maroon/yellow and Walt Disney cartoon devil. I just can’t watch them and think they are serious about competing on a national level.
USC maybe? You’d own Southern Cal. Not a bad place to own from a talent perspective.
by Bartoncreek on Jun 22, 2025 8:23 PM CDT reply actions
Just saw USC went 1st round (seems high). How bout the other USC? Nothing like the hot tang wearing skin tight Beat the Cocks tank tops.

Next two picks, take Standford and Tamu. Wisky would be a good consideration.

I must have missed it. How many teams in these leagues?
by Bob in Houston on Jun 23, 2025 11:21 AM CDT reply actions
You can pick as many as you want but as some point the conference gets diluted. We’re sticking with twelve.
by Vasherized on Jun 23, 2025 11:55 AM CDT reply actions
I like the Stanford and Tamu suggestion just for the sheer incongruity factor…

I guess I’m old enough to remember when it was almost impossible to separate USC and UCLA, as well as the pre-Carroll years, which weren’t so hot for USC.
I’m not convinced that USC will be forever dominant in that area. If that’s the case, they don’t bring nearly as much to the table.
And the NFL may come back someday. That will hurt both USC and UCLA.

Washington has serious potential. Nice campus, decent football tradition (DKR holla), no water rights issues, big media market.

The best of the rest, IMO: Wiscy, Tennessee, UVA, A&M, Stanford, Arizona — sleepers BYU, South Carolina, Mizzou.

Road trips to Seattle, LA, Austin, and Georgia?
