Last weekend, 2013 shooting guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes listed Texas in his top five. This weekend may bring more good tidings to the Texas Longhorns' basketball recruiting efforts. Per Hookem's Gerry Hamilton, 2013 combo guard DeMarcus Croaker (Jones / Orlando, FL) will take an unofficial visit to Texas this weekend ($).

Hamilton had previously reported that the Longhorns coaching staff was trying to get Croaker to visit at the end of August. Croaker had been hoping to take the trip with his mother. Right now, she is not planning on making the trip, but will look to accompany her son if (or when) he takes an official visit to Texas.

Croaker popped onto the Longhorns' radar with a strong showing in grassroots play this summer. Croaker plays for Florida Elite AAU (formerly the Florida Rams). The powerhouse program features five-star Florida commits Kasey Hill and Chris Walker, along with uncommitted center Joel Embiid. Embiid is high on Texas' big board.

It appears the hiring of Longhorns assistant coach Rob Lanier is paying dividends. Prior to returning to Texas, Lanier had been an assistant coach under Billy Donovan at Florida. Lanier is the lead recruiter for Croaker and Embiid, no doubt due to his area relationships from his time at Florida.

As for Croaker, the talented combo guard is listed 128th overall by 247's composite rankings. He lists a final three of Florida State, Texas, and Murray State. The Longhorns look to be in a good position with Croaker, as the Seminoles are hoping to land a package deal of Rathan-Mayes and his longtime friend and teammate, Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins is the consensus top player in the class of 2014, but is considering a reclassification to the 2013 class.
